Many people often ask about the best way to breathe in ice bath because it can be an uncomfortable and challenging experience. The cold water can cause the body to go into shock, which can lead to feelings of panic, anxiety, and shortness of breath.
The key to taking an ice bath is to take slow, conscious, deep breaths and avoid holding your breath. Focus on long and calm exhalations to help release tension from your body.
It's also important to listen to your body and stop if you feel uncomfortable or experience any pain or discomfort. No need to force. Start with a short duration and gradually increase your exposure to help your body adjust and make the experience more comfortable over time.

I had a powerful experience in the breathing exercises yesterday. At the completion of three sets of 30 breaths on the final hold of breath my entire body felt like a massive dynamo or generator, the vibrations were so strong and deep, and my internal organs felt like they were being re-arranged somehow. And although I was quite warm under a blanket, I began to shiver in a way I had never shivered before - the whole bed was shaking. It felt good so I went with it, and slowly the shivering transitioned into a deep warm glow, and there were lights, everywhere. Amazing.

The way your comment was worded sounded for a moment like you said it was dark because of the breathing technique lol. The ice baths and breathing truly are great and are amazing especially if I’m tired and need to push through a few more min of hard work.

Exactly! I was able to substantially prolong my time under a cold shower by controlling my breath and relaxing. It is crazy how it takes just a matter of seconds for my body to adapt to the cold.

@@VRedgrave97 aah okee. How long do you need to get back on body temperature after 10 mins of showering. Cause if I take a 16 min cold shower my body becomes numb. But it takes around 45 minutes to get back warm. Is that normal that long?

@@justinputten6005I only need that long time to recover when doing an ice bath in a river (8-12mins). Cold showers usually don't phase me after, maybe you're just more sensitive to cold. Or the exposure is that long, I've never done a cold shower longer than 10mins.

I always hyperventilate when exposed to cold, do you just breathe through your nose and out your mouth slowly? Like is it a deep breath? I've always been so sensitive to cold 😢
@bubblebubble279
@bubblebubble279 11 ай бұрын
@palmerstile9379 I am very sensitive to cold due to a thyroid issue. I do cold showers, haven't tried the ice bath yet. When my mind is scattered I struggle with the cold water but when I focus on relaxing and accepting the cold it's kind of natural the way my body adapts gradualy to it. It's exactly as this video states, do not engage with stress, let acceptance guide you and you start feeling in peace little by little
@Fiufsciak
@Fiufsciak 4 ай бұрын
@@palmerstile9379Deep breaths can also make you hyperventilate. That being said, be wary when using the method in the water. You don't want to get high on oxygen and pass out/drown.

Dear Wim In page 28 of your book you talked about deep breathing in the ribs ....intercoastal muscles .... Is that the same breathing technique in the method or is it different?
@federicograziani6160
@federicograziani6160 Жыл бұрын
Any deep breathing technique activates intercostal muscles, burning brown fat and making you feel a little bit less freezed. Doing the Wim Hof Breathing WHILE taking an ice bath can be a little bit dangerous, you could have reaction (like fainting) that you don't have while doing the Breathing in a normal situation (because of course the body is in a completely different state). Also, the Breathing technique takes around 10-15 minutes, but if an ice bath is in the right temperature for you (that is, "fucking freezing degrees" ) you should stay less than 10 minutes

@@federicograziani6160I can't quote exactly where I got that information but someone who seemed to have professional knowledge in a comment said that you should stay 1 min immerged for each C° for example 10 degrees = 10 minutes and 11 degrees = 11 minutes

I find the best way to adapt fast to an ice bath is to breathe in as much as possible then exhale through the nose a little bit and are-inhale. And repeat this process quickly. Making sure I'm using my lower diaphragm Then after a minute I can relax into the cold. Is this completely wrong?
