THAAAAAAAANNNNNNK YOU!! I swear nobody cares about the 8th gen 2.4 Honda Accord I've been looking for a video like this for years! I bought my 2.4 '08 Honda Accord coupe in 2012 only to figure out there is nothing for it. All the aftermarket company are too cheap to try something like this and they only care about the Civic Civic Civic Civic ugh or the v6 Honda Accord coupe. They completely skipped over the 8th gen Honda Accord 2.4. Thank you man I cannot thank you enough for doing this!

Just to share more technical knowledge about Honda's i-VTEC because I've got nothing better to do. Honda made many versions of their "i-VTEC" systems. The performance oriented i-VTEC incorporated valve lift and timing on both the intake and exhaust side. Engines like the K20A, K20A2, K20Z1, K20Z3, K24A2, and K24A3 have the performance version of i-VTEC. Some engines like the K20A3 and K24A8 only had "i-VTEC-E." Those engines don't incorporate variable valve lift, only a 12 to 16 valve switch over and variable valve timing. These engines usually produce more low-end torque and have better fuel efficiency. However, they don't rev as high and make less top-end power. In addition, their switch over is extremely early in the rev range and barely noticeable. There is another version of i-VTEC that incorporates variable valve lift, but only on the intake cam. Engines like the K24Z3 (like the one in this video) have this version of i-VTEC where VVL only occurs on the intake side. Both intake and exhaust sides still have VTC, so this systems sets itself in the middle of performance and fuel economy. You can generally tell the different K-Series engines apart by the intake manifold cover. If the lettering is red, then the engine has real "i-VTEC." If the manifold cover has black lettering or no lettering at all, it's most likely the "economy i-VTEC." Of course there's the head stamping to go off by too. I'd love to hear more facts from fellow Honda fans and enthusiasts. Thanks!

@diycarhome91515 жыл бұрын
Just adding if you get 300 hp out of a 4 banger your doing good. Because on Nicks Garage (You Tube) from Montreal, Quebec he does a lot of V8 builds with forged connecting rods and pistons. Average Horsepower on his Dyno is 600 horsepower out of a V8. So your half of a V8 an 4 cylinder so if you where to get 300 hp (non turbo-ed or super charged) an Good accomplishment. Will be an interesting build for sure.

@soggycivic85942 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old video, but 4 piston mentions that after porting the r40 head, it is the best flowing head out of all k series for all motor applications. You can actually add vtec cams on the exhaust side of the r40 head, and it’ll be better than the k20 heads and rbb (k24a2) head
@milanmastracci2 жыл бұрын
If that is the case, that is new information as 4P has recently begun putting some work into the R40 head.

Make sure u use NGK plugs for this set up I read the part list you posted and I saw you are planning or planed on using BOSH spark plugs Honda motors usually perform best with NGK or Denso’s
@romper44444 жыл бұрын
ZunoFG4 it sounds silly but its true. I cant tell u how many times ive given several different types of bosch plugs a try and the engine always feels just a bit off. Back to ngk's or densos and u can tell the slight difference in the smoothness with which the motor revs and idles.

Well that shows the differences between the American Acura k-24 engines and our Australian accord euro K-24 engines-my 2011 accord euro cu2 luxury has the K-24z3 engine but it has vtec on the intake and exhaust cams unlike the K-24 in this engine. There are so many variants of this engine and are different in other countries. My wife has a 2006 odyssey with a K-24 A3 but in America you guys got the 3.5 v6 engine in them.

You will need to properly port and polish that head in order to make 300 hp all motor. Be a lot cheaper to leave the k24z3 bone stock and put a gt30r turbo on it. That will make 450 whp a lot easier and cheaper. Hey....good luck with the build!
@phuhoang46784 жыл бұрын
Will you make a video on price breakdown of cost to do a kswap?
@J_K_L-ef6nr5 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting build, complex when it is already known internally more focus on the block that Honda k series are pretty reliable as proven by both the internet and various youtube channels that mainly boost these motors and everything is stock is kicking over 350 HP day in and day out. I would have thought this was a simple budget build, so a mild rebuilt head with cams and a RSX VTC timing gear, PLM Header, etc, a tune and go can reach 300 hp goal and still be reliable...Even i see that you have the ATI damper total over kill, would it have been just been easy to just use a OEM Honda ITR (the similar RSX type S) crank pulley and your good None the less good luck on the build : )
@milanmastracci5 жыл бұрын
I'll be getting into the oil pump in a later video, as the Type S oil pump cannot be bolted up to the K24Z blocks. It's nice for the K24A blocks as the threaded holes of the block align with the holes in the pump. You'll see how I get around that problem.

Well the price is the biggest part of what you can and can't do. If money is no object, I'd be buying a billet K24 engine block, but they're upwards of $8k right there, and that isn't even touching internals. I have a sheet in the description box of this video that I will be updating as I buy parts and spend money towards this build.

Z3 head is good for turbo, shorter collector/tubing which relates to less lag, check bisimoto the civic he just made he explains it all.

I would have to agree with him. The K23A1 that came out of the Acura RDX is an OEM engine that came boosted and it has the same single collector found on the cylinder head. It is a smart design and makes pretty good power for an engine with 8.8:1 CR pistons.

Tuning on 93/94 octane I assume since you're in Ontario? E85 is hard to come by up here.. You're going to need some serious head work to make 300 whp on pump gas, p&p, 12.5:1, 80mm+ TB, big tube header, ect. Not that it hasn't been done, because it definitely has.. But the stock ports on the head will be the one thing holding you back. Contact RaceHeads in St. Andrews Ontario. The world record stock block H2b is running a Raceheads cylinder head, 300whp on M5 fuel.
