OSB is amazing, I made an outdoor step(just piece of osb screwed to 2x6 box frame) leading into my shed. It isn't sheltered from the weather in any way...snow, sleet, rain, ice and/or blazing sun. That was 14yrs ago! Its still going strong. Great shelf build, thanks for sharing! 2:41

Thank you so much! I've actually had this bed since we built it and I have had nothing fall on me! I mean, that whole "headboard" is pretty much a wall lol.

That's awesome! Great idea. If I were to do that project, I'd do four things differently. First I'd make the headboard wider to fully accommodate the nightstands. I'd also add more lighting to backlight all those holes. I"d put the outlets lower so they were in the nightstand. And finally, I'd make the shelves 2 ply and put the dowels in the shelves to clean up the line and make it so the shelves couldn't move.

That turned out a lot cooler than I ever imagined it would. The lights and the holes/pegs/shelves all very creative.

Very similar to a headboard I made a few moons ago now. I had square holes in mine with sanded Plexiglas on the inside to cover each square hole. With a few mini strip lights around on the inside, the light then illuminated through the Plexiglas. The Plexiglas also stopped the square holes becoming a haven for little critters. Nice build guy's, looking forward to the next on.

Great video! I'm going to try making the pegboard as soon as I get a circular saw! Important note on the bed support though: every mattress needs to breathe, so putting it on a full surface is an invitation for mold, unless it gets lifted every day.

Nicely done! It's cool to see a project being made that doesn't take 100 tools to make. On that note, how do you like the Mikita track saw? I'm realizing I "need" a track saw, and I am looking at the makita and festool.
@Woodbrew

Thanks! I love the saw, but the tracks could be better. A lot of people buy the Makita saw for its price and depth of cut, but use the festool tracks.

Oh. and great work of course. Im asking because im thinking of something similiar but to use outside for a garden wall. allows one to move small pots or boxes around.
@Woodbrew
@Woodbrew 7 жыл бұрын
+adrian williams They are just sitting on the dowels, but you could totally screw them together. Having this outside would be really cool! If you decide to build it send us pictures, we would love to see!
@adi2416
@adi2416 7 жыл бұрын
Thought it would make a nice wall covering and then the added functionality of a garden. Small question... What would be a good sealer as its going to be exposed to weather.
@Woodbrew
@Woodbrew 7 жыл бұрын
+adrian williams I would try and find a good marine plywood then use a spar urethane. The problem with regular plywood is that it will try to delaminate with the moisture and heat. You could also use a treated plywood, but it's usually really low quality and green color. Lowes or HD sell an exterior grade plywood that isn't green and that would probably work. Marine grade plywood would be best, but you may have to call around to find it.
@adi2416
@adi2416 7 жыл бұрын
Im in cape town, south africa. Marine ply is pricier but not a problem to find. Thanks for the advice. Looking forward to your new projects.

@Woodbrew
@Woodbrew 7 жыл бұрын
+Wabi Sab - E I was concerned about this initially, but after jumping around on it my confidence is very high. These foam mattresses do an excellent job distributing weight. Together we are close to 300lbs and jumping is a far greater load. We also had a third person on it yesterday without any flex.

Wood isn't concrete or metal. it will flex over time and whatever joinery methods used will get loose when over exposed to strong forces like this. Just because something holds for a bit doesn't mean it's structurally sound. There is a reason you see bed frames built the way they are, there's centuries of design and redesign to back this up, you're not finding some new fact all these woodworkers missed for centuries because the matress type is new.

What about the shelves slipping off the pegs? Maybe sand some arcs where the pegs sit to keep it from shifting side to side and all of your stuff from falling

Great project kids! Don't take offense to "kids" as all us old farts would LOVE to be kids again ! I too think you will get some sag in your plywood over time but I did like your statement about all old things sagging a bit "hehehe" . I would try a backing strip behind the LEDs to block light from shining back toward the holes in the headboard. Just personal preference. That may well be a feature you are fond of. Again, great work.

Unfortunately, we don't have plans for this project :( But, all you really need is (4) 3/4" sheets to plywood, and a few 2x4s to screw into the studs and then attach the wall to those. Also, some legs! You can find some pre-made ones on amazon. Hope that helps!
