In this video DIY expert Craig Phillips shows you how to build and install a simple picket fence using tanalised timber for the panels, arris rails and fence posts.
Craig marks out the dimensions of his fence, cuts the panels using a mitre saw and digs the hole for the post using a fencing spade. Once the posts are level the holes are filled with concrete before attaching the arris rails and panels using a air nailer.

I love these videos so much. Craig makes it look so straight forward and gives you the confidence to give it a go. I've never had an issue with Silverline tools and for a homeowner like me who doesn't use them too often it's good to have a budget brand making tools you can rely on and are readily available.

Hi Craig and the team at Silverline. Thank you for posting this. I'm about to build my first picket fence, in January - Wish me luck! I'm documenting the process on our website. I learned a few things here so have included what I learned on the site. I love that you guys don't should about your tools, but I have to say I want one of those spade - is that something that you make? I'm just going to check out the gate video too. Thanks for posting!

Arris rails, not Harris rails, Pales not Slats - 100mm x100mm is a bit overkill for a picket fence, use 75mm x 75mm, they'll be slightly cheaper too. Instead of mixing up concrete for posts buy bags of Postcrete it goes off in hours. 8~)

I'd be adding an offcut of paver to keep that post of the bottom of your hole, but pre position your posts with two pegs and some bracing, plum your post then pour your concrete. Otherwise you risk of having your fence posts running out of plum. Not a negative mate, but try it...it works regardless of your fence post heights.

Bit of overkill for a paling fence. Start off by buying paling fencing. I can buy locally in 2021 for 75mm X 900 mm at just over £1.00. Then use 75mm square, larger not needed for a low garden fence which I think most might be interested in, rather than what looks like a housing estate fence going through concrete. Posted with best of intentions.

@AshSUFC1889
@AshSUFC1889 4 жыл бұрын
@@MrDIYCraigPhillips See you point mate. Standard concrete mix is about £4 a bag from the main DIY stores. Postcrete about £4.75. I've got 15, 8ft posts to put up in the spring (for panel fencing). Going to be pricing that one up carefully, might even look to see if I can get some ready mixed delivered.
@MrDIYCraigPhillips

@@AshSUFC1889 At that price with 15 posts its not going to be a huge amount so if you can afford it, go for it, strength wise it will still be the same. Good luck.
