Romanticizing freelancers in a context where companies are abandoning regular employees in favor of ppl working per diem, with no benefits. If the US had socialized healthcare and education system, it'd be different. But freelancing most of the time is bc we are struggling to find a stable employment

Interesting and timely video. * Identify your quality / core values - Ask your friends to ask why are you worth hiring? - What types of projects do you really excel at? - What value you bring as freelancer * Nurture early relationships * Everytime ask for feedback * Grow your client base over time. * When the project is about to end … ask if they can promote your work in social media * Focus on building a reputation for a good work * Freelance community - A group where you can learn or vent and identify potential opportunities - Where to meet and what podcasts to listen to

The advice about asking for feedback after every project is super valuable. It's easy to get stuck in our own bubbles, but seeking feedback helps us grow.

You've forgot the last step: break on reality because 80-95% of B2B consulting deals are made by recommendations or network. So you basically won't get any start point or growth point without a wide network.

I think that kind of falls into steps 3-5 as they all involve building/ fostering a network.

I'm generally a positive person, but this couldn't be further from the truth. He is describing a rare case. As others have said in the comments, many, if not most companies use freelancers to cut costs and to let go with a whim, zero notice or respect for the contract they signed.

I never understood freelancing, who protects you as a customer or as a freelancer from scams, especially if the other party is in another country. Also, it seems like a messy and not secure way to make a living to me, too much stuff can go wrong, from wrong pricing, miscalculations, customers not being happy...

I am a full time freelancer. To answer your question, you can leverage platforms like Upwork where Upwork mediate between the freelancer and the client. Also for off-platform freelancers, that is, independent contractors, you can be protected by signed contracts. When you start having retainer clients, you income is somewhat secure and you can scale through referrals and growing into a freelance agency.

Investing in the financial market is a grand choice I made.

Sometimes I see freelancers on my same area change absurd rates like 300$ / hr and it seems it remains employable, however I don't really think someone could afford such rates, at least for a long term contract, I'd like to know what's going on there

AI is not a threat to freelancing at large. Yes, some skills are affected but not all skills. Even the most affected skill such as writing, clients still prefer human writing content because AI has its limitations. AI requires a prompt, people can freelance as prompt engineers
