Hey john, i wish me and my wife had this plan in place. My wife was attacked while i was at work ( im a deputy sheriff) i responded to my own house to find my wife in tears with bruises and cuts. Thank god my wife is a warrior and fought the bad guy off enough to let the dogs loose. The s.o.b. actually asked for me by name. We are still working on our home security and my wife is now more interested in carrying and learning to shoot better.

Clayton - I don't know you, or your wife. But I pray that she recovered well from being attacked. I'm glad that she is more interested in carrying, but it is unfortunate (as in a lot of cases) that something had to happen before the interest was spurred. (That is NOT a comment on your wife, but on all folks who don't think about security until something has happened).

Becoming a mama threw me into self defense mode. My husband doesn’t shoot, doesn’t consider security at all. I realized it is all up to me. Got my concealed carry permit, train routinely, and attended many different safety classes over the years. As kids got older played what if games with them for different scenarios. You need a plan and practice. No one s going to help you as quickly as you can help yourself.

@anonymous_friend Whoosh went the point right over your head. Carrying as a mom, or even a woman in general, is veeeery different from carrying as a man. The poster expressed that she would like more woman-specific information, and generally that perspective is going to come from... a woman. That doesn't mean the guys wouldn't bring useful information for women to the table, and having a format like this video would be ideal, but the guys' perspective isn't the same.

@@Firstfalconfree You are so right. Carrying as a woman is so different from a man. First of all most of us have hips :) whereas a man doesn't. The more you have the more uncomfortable it is. I think I've tried everything (except the bra holster) and they are all uncomfortable in one way or the other. And that's just one issue.

When I started traveling I set up a plan to get training for my wife. When we were blessed with kids she really got into the training. The mothers instinct kicked in. We have now augmented the training with 3 well trained fur guards. Over 120 teeth as a first line of defense. So far the fur force score is 5 the bad people zero.

The wife and I carry the same weapon. Anytime we leave the house, we brief each other where on the body we are carrying and location of spare magazines. We do this in case one of us goes down, and we are able to easily use each other's weapon and magazines. Our children are also told to lay flat at home or out in public.

I would like to add just a little to your lesson here if I could. As an Army vet and also retired police officer I have same interest as you and your family. I have always told people a simple security that almost everyone has these days is your vehicle. Keep your keys close by even in the house. If you hear something outside overnight, simply hit the panic button. It is a quick deterrent to more than likely scare someone away if they are actually there and up to no good. Anyone kids, wife, husbands can all use this and no cost as a simple deterrent. Love your content and thank you very much.

As a Foster Family, we are required to have emergency plans for situations such as fire and tornadoes, and a floor plan of the routes to be taken, and primary, secondary, and tertiary gathering zones. I love designing that. I intend on printing each one up, laminating it, and sticking it up on each bedroom door. Going deeper, I would consider having emergency directions printed out for everyone based on other harrowing scenarios. But, as you said, planning and implementing them and rehearsing them over time.

Love that you all are sharing these tools. People also need to focus on security while outside and away from the house. Traveling is always a new host of challenges. Whether flying, taking a train or driving there are so many things that can be thought through and planned for each. From restaurants to shopping or attending some type of gathering such as church, meetings or other events and venues creating a basic plan that your family knows and have rehearsed become second nature. I always identify entrance and exit points, scan for potential threats, look for available cover and concealment. To ease my anxiety we typically go to a few of the same places and try to minimize new locations to the best of our availability. When I am out with any of my family their security is and will always be my number one priority

I can tell you as someone who worked in the school system awhile, we always taught our students specific safety question like knowing there address, phone number, parents name, name of city they lived in, where there parents worked, how to dial 911, etc. Than, at home I think teaching children to always come to the parents for a "knock at the door" , staying within boundaries, having a pass code word only parents and kids know ( in case someone said they were there to help or pick up kids, the person must know the pass code word). Teach house fire awareness and plan (second story have one of those chain ladders). When out in public teach kids to scream and yell help if someone was ever to grab them, even bite and kick. You can also get tracking id bracelets to my understanding nowadays. Just some ideas.

We have some of the basics that you mentioned, security signs and motion lights. We live in a senior Mobile home community. I know that my husband would not be physically able to defend me or himself so it's up to me. My immediate defense plan would be to activate a few alarms as a deterrent. It's all we got right now. As a security professional, I totally agree, this is all good information John. However, for the average person most of these dangers will never materialize in their life lifetime. So the biggest threat to their health is drugs, alcohol, tobacco, STDs from sexual immorality, eating the wrong kinds of foods and too much of them, lack of exercise, etc. So yes, all things in balance and don't forget the big picture of what it takes to keep yourself healthy unless live a long time. Live holistically.

Agreed. I see too many people in this community spending all their time and money buying lots of guns, stockpiling ammo, buying nightvision, focusing almost exclusively on 'prepping' activities, etc etc. Meanwhile they have no savings, are deep in credit card debt, are 50-100lbs overweight, don't train, don't workout, drink too much, have no retirement plan, and completely neglect their spiritual lives. So while they're focused on surviving a "Black Swan" event, they're slowing killing themselves by their daily lifestyle.

Here is your plan blueprint: *Avoid...Alert...Delay...Communicate...Respond*. You want to avoid the situation as much as possible, put measures in place to give you the earliest alert of the danger, delay the time between being alerted and contact with the bad guy, communicate to those that need to know the situation (internal and external) and finally respond to the threat. This could be engaging the threat or just running away.

My wife is a veteran of the Air Force, and can definitely out shoot me at the range. She is competent with a firearm, but still doesn’t find things like this important to review or go over. She doesn’t watch the news, although she’s not oblivious to what’s happening in the world. I’m sure I’m not alone in this exact scenario. John, I’ve watched probably every video you’ve made since you started, Becca is amazing for not only being supportive, but understanding why it’s crucial. But I know a lot of buddies, obviously myself included, who have wives that are just not into this world. They know where the guns are, and how to use them and that’s kind of their limit. She knows that I carry every day, but she doesn’t. What is your recommendation to go further that’s not based entirely on fear? All of our kids are of age and we are both pushing them to get permits. We have one child in the Air Force already.

REMEMBER THIS: Usually if they break in on work hours, they want your stuff (you're likely to be out), but if they break in at night, they want you.

Folks be mindful of the aircraft load. If you have enough magazines rotate them on occasion to make sure those springs work when you need them.

Mrs Poet is a good match for you. You share so much more than similar views and perspectives. Mutual respect and values. Home defence foundations are awareness, obvious and covert lighting, cameras, discourage the bad guys by not giving cover or blind spot approaches. Then the onion layers of defence strong and secure doors windows. Multiple people cross skill trained if you have one medic the first casualty will always be the medic. Then have family prepared not only weapon skills, tactics, zoned defences, they know where weapons, ammunition, medical, food, water, areas that offer the best cover or can be a safe room.

I run a concrete block home, reenforced entries (two), unbreakable 200mph hurricane impact windows, full security system with power and cellular backup, HD night vision motion sensing cams with full coverage of the property, 130lb loud dog, in an out-of-the-way area with only 4 neighbors and we all know each other and watch out for each other. And of course the guns with never enough training because of time. I'm a nurse. This video was great because we don't have a plan. Just kind of settled in thinking this all was enough. Also she's great, love when it's both of you. My wife is a 6'2" Puerto Rican warrior whose default mode is angry. Maybe that's all I need!

Makes perfect sense. Good she is so on board. My girls are up and raised, 2 of 3 of them have initiated their own home d plans. One keeps her head in the sand like her mom. Sometimes you just cant reach them. Great Mrs btw!
