Alternative to shaper sheet and foam carving is to use metal mosquito screen that you can cut and bend like the shaper sheet. You then apply plaster to the top of that to get the final surface. Bonus is it gives you a conductive backplane if you want to apply electrostatic grasses ( rather than sprinkle turf) where the grass will stand upright.

Nice tutorial on the shaper sheet. Scene turned out great.

Foam is WAY easier and just as realistic. To each is own. Nice video as always. Great to see the progression of the layout.

Thanks, James for the vid. I've been wanting to see someone in the field use the shaper sheet other than the Woodland Scenics team. I'm going to try and use it for my mountain which is the central part of my layout. So thanks again for posting the vid! Best, John

Great video! Is the stuff like the mixing bowls and the plaster cloth tray really necessary or can you just use everyday stuff like Tupperware bowls or the foil paint trays that you can get at Wal-Mart for a few dollars?
@jlwii20009 жыл бұрын
ATSF modeler You can absolutely use regular stuff from Walmart, I just had a lot of Woodland Scenics stuff from the last layout and from the planning stages of this layout.

Hi. So I used this and did a video too, but I see you didn't attempt to peel and stick two sheets together like they say you can. I couldn't get mine to peel apart, so I was curious if you tried it and had any luck? That was my only critique of it, otherwise it was a great product.

"I got criticism for my layout being 2 dimensional" have you ever been in Indiana or Illinois? have they?

I am starting to get to a point to start building my layout again, I decided to scrap all the old stuff I had as far as tracks, benches, etc that were in storage and completely start with new stuff and try to follow an ISO modular build... I have a ton of trains I have to repair too, they sat up for years and I dont dare apply power to them without cleaning and inspection especially the motor brushs. Also I have gotten very creative in Garry's Mod, Tell me what you think: steamcommunity.com/id/Elfnet_Gaming/screenshots/

I enjoy your videos but I can't help but get the idea this was an infomercial. You buy stock in Woodland Scenics or something? Don't take that the wrong way, I do like their products. Gerald
@jlwii20009 жыл бұрын
Gerald Mabry If you look at my last layout build series I used a ton of woodland scenics in that build too. They are the largest scenery company out there, so I use a lot of their stuff. But there will also be stuff from scenic express and unreal details as well in future installments.
