Kudos on the concept! A couple things that you can do with the exact same parts. 1) Use the cut out pieces for a foundation at the bottom of the burn chamber for added resistance to a burn by sliding one to the bottom then adding an inch of sand, and then the second one onto the sand. This would work best if when being cut, they were nearly exactly the same size as the galvanized section. 2) Your U bolts were brilliant - but nothing says you can't turn them upside down to use - there by lowering OR even making adjustable the height of the "grate" you're replacing with them. My hats off to you - PLEASE keep these wonderful ideas coming and your channel viewers will be ready for anything!!! ~Soft Winds and Starry Nights~

Hi. Just a quick tip. For better burn it would be good to have some sort of shelf at the opening where you feed in the wood like some other rocket stoves do. This would allow air into the burn area. Also if you made a lose fitting skirt that goes around the size pot you intend to use to get the heat around the sides of your pot. Good luck. Whish you the best. Jason, Waiheke , Aotearoa nz

For windy days,you can make a pot skirt from flashing. It should be about an inch and a half bigger that the pot you'll be using and about 5-6 inches tall. It directs all the heat up around the sides and doesnt let the wind sap any heat from the flame. Very nice neat build. If you build the one out of 6 inch pipe,there is a definate diameter to hight ratio that must be somewhat adhered to for proper woodgas combustion. Generally speaking, the hight of the chimney should be 3-4 times the diameter of the pipe youll be using. Ive built a few rocket stoves and learned alot through trial and error,,,,,mostly error. I enjoyed the video!!

Great idea for an easy rocket stove, I might just have to try this. Could you use standard hex head bolts rather than u-bolts? It seems like that would allow you to lower the pot easier by adjusting the nuts.
@thebossoftheswamp10 жыл бұрын
backwoods223 That's what I was planning on using but used the Ubolts instead. I'm just going to add about a 1/2" to the stovepipe to close the gap and I'll be all set. I just used the U bolts to give folks an alternative if they couldn't find the stove grate. I have 3 of the grates so that's what I'll use on the next ones.

Pretty nice little stove for homemade. I do agree the stove grate would have been better, but that one seems to work! We used lava rocks in one we made and that worked pretty well, much lighter. drywall corner bead makes a good pot holder/wind break because the stuff is stiff and has holes for the smoke to escape. Just make cuts with snips every 2 inches on one side and you can bend it around in a circle.
