Nicole and I are attempting to live off the grid in British Columbia, Canada. We have 8 acres of forest property sandwiched in between the Pacific Ocean, a fresh water lake, and a stream which flows year round from the lake into the ocean. For over nearly 10 years I grew a fruit tree, permaculture, garden, and native edible plant, herb, and raised bed garden food forest. You can still watch all the garden videos of my old desert garden in Arizona. I was born in British Columbia and I have returned to the Rain Forests of British Columbia to a "Raw Land" property to grow my 1st FULL EDIBLE FOOD FOREST Off Grid on a wilderness property. This climate is temperate and coastal, rarely seeing snow in the winter and highs in the 80's (30 Celsius) in the summer. It is a rare microclimate that spans from gardening zone 7-9. The property is 8 acres and completely overgrown, mostly with conifer trees. This area is a verifiable rain forest and situated in the Southwestern-most tip of the Canadian "Great Bear Rain Forest". NicHolistic ( / holisticnicole ) and I will be learning about edible seaweeds, edible native plants, edible mushrooms, and many other edible native trees/plants as we attempt to Build a Yurt, Draw Our Energy Clean, Live Off the Grid, and Grow an Epic Superfoods Garden and Fruit Tree Orchard. My husband is from Mexico and he built the house his mother currently lives in when he was a teenager. It was a very empowering thing for him as well, he made it out of concrete and bricks and rocks that he dug up from the a ditch. Much love guys

I took a Tai Quan Do course with my daughter just for the exersize and fun. She was 5 years old. The Sensai invited some young men to show us the sword movements. They were awesome. i never forgot how fluently they moved and the swords (aluminum). I have always wanted to have the 2 swords and do the exorsizes like them. So I recently cut out a set of swords from thick aluminum and added maple handles and red & yellow ribbons. They look awesome and are fun to use ! Everything for sale online is so expensive & shipping is a killer. Now you show me how to do the moves with them. Thanks Jake & Nicole. You guys are # 1 !

Very cool! In Mongolia, the nomads orient the door of the ger (Mongolian word for yurt) to face the lee side of the prevailing winds. In their winter camps, for example, the door faces south to prevent northerly winds from blowing into the home. Of course it ultimately depends the local geography which way the door faces. It is truly wisdom that comes from living with the environment!

When I was in school I was a naughty kid they didn’t really like me mixing with the other kids so they sent me away as much as they could to build Mongolian yurts 😂 it’s basic but there is technique you will need some way of heating or steaming the wood to bend it without breaking especially for the wheel at the top. I’d love to do it for a living.

Congrats you guys! Love the progress and how you are still working well as a team!!! Please put the diagonal bracing underneath. Even just two by fours or something will really help stabilize the home. Looking online at other yurts many of the platforms that are higher off the ground have the bracing.

Interesting. Ya'll could use some of those "lifting straps" to help with heavy objects or maybe make one of those y-shaped sledges to carry things or guess your wheel barrow once you have the object lifted. Good luck.
