Man it's nice to hear that your work pays off. You and all the people who support you with this work help to build systems, that are able to give al lest 50% of humanity tools to keep themselves alive in a better way. Heating, cooking, and the bases for a lot of energy production, in addition to building technology, are impacted by your work in a huge way! My hat is off to your.

Very much enjoyed this video - it's an excellent cross-section review of lessons learned over the past 12 months relating to Darwin's work with the invention of the foam-mate through his experiments with air-crete and the creation of the air-crete panel mix he devised when building the outhouse/storage shed for Melanie's parents.

Hey guys, been a very long time Sub, just been watching in the back ground. I will be honest, i was very sceptical at the beginning, but over time you have proven to worth your weight in gold. This video has got to be one of the most honest videos i have seen on YT. So many people dont open up and show there mistakes, more people should do this as its the best way for us to learn. Later this year i will be making all sorts of stuff once i move to Portugal, am a bit of an eco warrior so really dont like the idea of using cement for anything due to the processing needed to create it. am not in the right place where i have the time to start experimenting right now, but once i do, i will certainly be looking to you guys for inspiration and possible your kits and mixes. i wish you luck with your kick start and really hope your able to get the lab you talked about so much. The positive fun energy you both give is exceptional. Namasta

Thanks for your videos. Just one question. There were a couple of places where it looked like you were adding '"ingredient" other than foam to the slurry. (One being pearlite). What other ingredients have you added and why not the obvious one of a fine sand? Presumably the interlocking effect would apply just as in regular concrete, increasing strength and reducing cracking in the cure and after.

Great informative vids, have you or anyone else done thicker walls as much as 15"? I'm thinking it would have to be done in 2 or 3 pours/cures in the same form to come up with that thickness. Why do I want a wall that thick, for the extra R factor needed in 110 - 112 degree summer temps in PHX AZ. Thanks

Questions: I'm wanting to homestead in Canada. Winter's can be harsh and cold. Can the Aircrete be used for a basement or slab foundation? Does it have the strength capabilities?? I'm thinking a better insulating situation. Secondly, you talk about the porosity of Aircrete and water flowing through it, can it be made more hydrophobic? Perhaps as a roofing or shingling material (as well as being insulating) and stop the water from passing through it...?

No, You didn't miss it. I chose to put a double layer Ply wood roof on it with a 3" cavity between the layers and studs holding them apart 2' on center and fill the roof in place through the ridge which was left open 3" on each side then I just put a ridge cap over the ridge of the roof. It was an experiment. I wanted to do something to see if I could fill a wall with airctrete as the insulation. So far so good. HDC

Just remember your walls are not structural. They will bow in if you do not support them or leave expansion room outside. Only do about 1 foot high per pour or you'll compress your bubbles out in the lower portions. I would use hard foam against the sides first (even an inch thick) just for good measure. Not necessary though. Just make sure you support the inside of the wall!

Very safe. It is also light enough that you could build concrete piers and create a floor platform at ground level or tall piers and put it above storm water level. As long as your piers are built directly, the aircrete house will be just fine., Even in a typhoon.

Hi I enjoyed your videos and have built a foamer. I am in Australia and I don't see DAWN on the shelves I wonder if anyone in aus has done some tests on foaming agents. I managed to get some powder sodium sulphate hydro.. any clues on how much to use or if there is an aussie soap that we can use. Most of the test detergents I have used collapse after an hour or so. I have made some small test panels and it seems to work even though the foam is not so supportive. love to speak to some aussies doing this aircrete for advice. cheers fred ps I was able to spray some aircrete it stuck really well but its not robust may need a cement only spray on top? what do you think?
@drmachinewerke1
@drmachinewerke1 5 жыл бұрын
Fred Braat What about shredded eps ( styrofoam) . I do ( we’ll just retired after 35 years ) commercial roofing. There was a time we were pouring light weight concrete on roofs. We would pump out a slurry about 1” on the roof. Place foam panels with 2” holes spaced evenly ( 6 in a 2’x4’ ) in a panel. Let set over night then pour a slurry over the top 2 “ thick on the panel. I always thought it would be faster to just grind the styrofoam and add to concrete mix.
@fredbraat3765
@fredbraat3765 5 жыл бұрын
you could do this but I recommend using Perlite instead of styrofoam the foam collapses and is a fire risk perlite is used in making Pizza ovens so it handles heat better. I have poured a floor using perlite and cement and sand it is lighter in weight than using gravel and seems to be holding up well after two yrs already. I put down some clip lock roofing and chucked in some recycled plastic strands for reenforcing worked week and I didn't need steel mesh. @@drmachinewerke1

Is it possible to make panels to line a shed we live in Australia have been watching your videos and have been thinking to use air create as a insulation my shed is 15meters long by 10 meters wide height of the side walls is 5 meters. I was thinking of doing the panels in large sections doing a bottom row then a top row. I would look at putting plastic tubes in the panel to I could have a number of fixed holes in the face of the panel to be able to screw the panel to the frame of the shed on the inside. I was thinking of making a steel mould to pour the panels in then pop them out of the mould once cured would this be a good option in your experience based on the fact that you feel you have the perfect fit or would I need to stick to your method of frames would welcome your feedback on this thanks I have enjoyed your videos regards Rob T

Possibly you could pour the aircrete in place using a slip form.I have been considering a method for placing the aircrete once it is mixed. They have barrels available with large screw on lids. If the valve and hose for RV wast tank was installed at the bottom and an air valve at the top then after mixing the lid could be sealed and air pressure would push the the aircrete out the hose into the form. Wold work good to fill wall cavities.

Buying SLSA powder is cheaper than buying Suave. I make foam in 5 gallon buckets using a paddle mixer that has some stainless steel scrubby pads tied through the end. 3 pints of hot water and 1 teaspoon of SLSA powder will make 5 gallons of appropriately dense foam. So the powder will make around 600 gallons of foam per pound of powder. A three pound package of powder is $43.95 on Amazon and will make 1,800 gallons of foam. You can buy SLS even cheaper (about 1/3 the price) from some chemical supply places, but that stuff is so hard on your skin that I stick with the SLSA. Suave contains SLS by the way, so it really is just a preference on my part, but if you're playing in SLS based soap all day it will take the skin off of your hands, so wear gloves.

I love it. You basically described the very system I have drawn up. I will send the slurry after mixing with a small amount of pressure through a series of one way check valves from paddle mixer to paddle mixer. The drum style paddle mixers will have sealed openings for putting in ingredient. once the slurry has the foam mixed in in the last drum paddle mixer, air will force the finished product into the last receptacle where air pressure will force the mix through a 4" fire hose tits final form.

Thanks for all you do! I am very interested in pouring panels for large walls for the house I'm building. I anticipate pouring the flat on my concrete slab then standing them up in place. Got any tips or tricks for that? This is going to be a 2 story structure. I am VERY seriously considering aircrete panels for floors of the sleeping lofts. I need information for making and installing these floor panels. Rebar, "rabbit" wire, and basalt mesh have been suggested. Also, I need to figure out thickness or dimensions to span a 16'x32' area, how to safely support this flooring system. My original idea was an ALL metal home. Now, with aircrete, I am definitely interested in making the aircrete work for the inside and outside finish, the insulation, and creating voids for utilities. Looking for suggestions or ideas...
