Excellent video! Just what I have been looking for to help plan my 2017 USA motorcycle tour as I will be camping. Going to air cargo my motorcycle from the UK to Washington DC & ride to the following destinations: Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Ithaca, Niagara Falls, Buffalo then to Chicago to ride Route 66 all the way to Santa Monica California & then to San Francisco to ship my motorcycle back to the UK. Can't wait for the tour to begin as I am retired so have 12 weeks to complete the tour! Your video has been brilliant in helping me find campsites so many thanks!

If you're going to be going to Ithaca, there is no excuse to avoid Syracuse. If you take the back roads, especially in autumn, it is beautiful. In Syracuse, avail yourself of the local food. Heid's of Liverpool for amazing coneys. Coleman's Irish Pub, for a hot corned beef sandwich and a pint of porter. There are a bunch of eateries and bars on Armory Square too. Lots of food I am forgetting, and they have a Little Italy. You can make a day trip of it, and not be very far off your current course. I was stationed north of Syracuse for six years, and lived in the 'Cuse for another four before I eventually found my way back to Texas.

Eric Graves Thanks for I input but I will not be there in Autumn as my tour starts in May through to August 2017. Really looking forward to crossing the entire USA on a motorcycle which is a BMW R 1200 GS Adventure.

While I haven't yet gotten a bike, I am already planning a lengthy cross country, possibly international, road trip. I saved this and another video you did, for reference when it comes time to plan. I will have a laptop on the road with me as well, so I can make changes as weather or mood shifts.

Great video! Belleville Kansas was free for tents, shower, flush toilet, pond, beautiful and my favorite. Great small town check out the movie theater. Gridley Lake campground, Gridley KS only $5 for tents, clean shower & toilets. Absolutely beautiful. Put this video on my camping playlist.

I greatly appreciate that your tips are useful for finding camp sites that are not only free, but also LEGAL. No trespassing involved. Excellent suggestions, and extra credit for showing how to confirm that the information on web sites is legit.

Wildlife management areas sometimes have free camping, as well as US Army Corps of Engineers sites.

Great tips, thanks! I'll be doing a couple of years in the States on my RTW trip starting in April this year and hope to do a lot of wild camping / hammocking. I didn't know about the ADV website option, appreciate the heads up. Checked out your other video about packing for a motorbike trip (to Alaska) - good stuff there too. You have a new subscriber in me from Spain. Keep the great videos coming!

+countrylife Nice! Yeah lots of free opportunities, sometimes its nice being right in a National Park if you are hiking the following morning or example, but sometimes its nice to avoid the crowds and the cash!

Wow hard to believe it. I'm in Ontario where every campsite in the province (at least for water, hydro, electric) are scooped up 6 months ahead of time. I've never seen free camping anywhere, not even in a town park. Not for tenters or anyone. The only time I ever got free camping was in October when the municipal staff of a remote town were gone for the season. (You can see it in one of my videos!)

is this still reliable in 2020? is the info on the site updated? should i be worried about the camp sites not being there anymore?
What about roadside camping/wild camping? Is it legal in the USA?
@HighDesertCactus8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Roth Many roads run through BLM Land, and you can usually camp along the road as long as your a certain distance from the road, 50 yards or so don't qoute me and it may be different in each area. As for camping along the road in general a lot of people do it from what I've read, the worst that usually happens is someone asks you to leave.
