@houndsmanone4563

Man Stacie, that's still quite difficult to tell if there's a little chick developing. I think I'd just keep them all in there for incubation time, then if nothing hatches, delicately, remove that egg from the batch. Hey, I have no clue if that's right but I'd hate to toss out an egg just b/c I couldn't see the air sack. What do you do with the non-fertile eggs? (bury them) I remember one time getting a store-bought egg and it had a partial baby. I just didn't tell my Mom b/c she would have probably freaked out (chuckle). Thanks
@ChickenHues
@ChickenHues 6 жыл бұрын
Seriously?! That makes me freak out just thinking about it! LOL I don't usually discard any dark eggs until the last week when they look significantly different (lighter, not as filled, etc.) than the others. I don't make any decisions before that for the reasons you stated! I usually just throw them away, although they could probably be buried, composted, or other things. Mostly, I have to make sure my dog isn't able to get them, which limits my choices. ;)

Yes. If you see veins then there is a developing chick. They are hard to see detail through.

Not sure about the air cell point. All my store bought eggs have air cells. They are not free range so I'd assume they aren't fertilized either. HOWEVER, both the eggs I cracked this morning had the white spot fead center in the yolk. That I hadn't noticed before. My hens are starting up again so I want to finish up the sb.
@ChickenHues
@ChickenHues Жыл бұрын
All eggs have air cells. When candling dark eggs, sometimes the only way to see that they are developing is because the air cell is visible.
@ChristoferB
@ChristoferB Жыл бұрын
Are you absolutely sure about that? I just candled a store bought egg I bought yesterday and it has a well developed air cell too.

I have had them hatch with oddly placed air cells. 5 days is pretty early - try candling again around 8-10 days to see if there is development.

@ChickenHues
@ChickenHues 2 жыл бұрын
I went and looked and see that, too. I’m wondering if I was rotating the egg because that would cause that. I would have noticed the movement and seen it was alive unless I knew that I was moving the inside of the egg while turning it.

@ChickenHues
@ChickenHues 2 жыл бұрын
You may have misunderstood what I meant? All eggs have an air cell. When an egg starts to develops, the air cell becomes more visible during candling. Darker and colored eggs can be very hard to see details in, so sometimes just noticing that air cell can show that development is occurring. Does that explain what I meant?
@christiancowboy352
@christiancowboy352 2 жыл бұрын
@@ChickenHues No ma'am, that really doesn't compute. I have good fertile eggs that have a very small air cell, and all different size air cells. I guess I'm not understanding your definition of "more visible".... please explain further.
