I too used to judge the humble Golden pothos. Finally gave in and got a 16.98 Home Depot basket Oct ‘20 because I wanted a lplant to hang in my front window that had the ability to grow lushly Growing ~4ft in a year is no joke. Mine was just starting to trail over the side when I got it, now the longest vines are like three feet from the floor 🤣 it also has two strong vines of superrrrrr light/white splashy variegated leaves, so pretty. Giving my marble pothos a run for his money every day

I was gifted a long clipping of Golden Pothos by my sister in law! It's rooting really nicely in water and getting a bit more coloring. Thank you for the video!! I'm looking forward to it getting bigger and bigger.

Before I became interested in growing plants I had one marble queen and I literally used just miracle grow potting mix from HD when I had to repot. I also I cut the roots with a knife to make the plant smaller so I could repot into the same pot. Lol. I cringe now when I think about it. BUT .... I’ve had her for 17 yrs now! They are resilient plants!

Yea, I have 4 cats and my little Emma snacked last night on my newly purchased Hoyas and peperomia sitting on my kitchen table. She loves her veggies 🤣 I just wouldn't get any plants that are toxic because I never know if she will eat it.

I think the possible reasons they haven't flowered since the 60's is because they aren't in their native growing climate with actual seasons and haven't grown tall enough as some plants, like the vanilla orchid for reference, will only flower after growing VERY tall.

True, and *E. aureum* has a genetic deficiency to gibberellin biosynthesis (EaGA3ox1) and GA-responsive floral meristems (EaLFY) -- _both genes need to be expressed for floral transition to occur; via. the transcriptional response to bioactive GAs and/or exogenous GA3_
@joshuarichards8065
@joshuarichards8065 Жыл бұрын
@@NeonCicada what is interesting is it can still flower if given gibberellins (not sure how exactly) it will flower like a monstera deliciosa flower but smaller. Not surpising as pothos and monstera are closely related.

Also, I think it's good to mention that lighting is a huge influence on the level of variegation for Epipremnum Aureum. In severely low light, they won't present any variegation at all or have small splashes every now and then. With strong light and proper watering, you can get highly variegated leaves, being a very vivid yellow rather than looking more off-coloured or just pale. Of course, genetics are also a factor but if you really want that bright yellow you see in photos, bump the light.

One of Mine wouldn’t even grow when I took it out of bright light, even though it still had a decent amount of light that other plants do fine in! I put it in a west window with tree cactus and it woke up. I have another in the shade and it refuses to die

As far as temps, Epipremnum Aureum and Pinnatum can both do well even if they're in 38F/3C, and I'm sure even a little colder. Of course they'll be very slow, but they will still continue to grow.

Pothos, the plant you can throw in your closet, forget to water it for a month or three. If you find it boring in its vining form, give it a moss pole to climb up and its leaves will get large like a monstera. If you find the golden variety to be boring, there are tons of different varieties. Marble Queen. Neon. Rio. Global Green. Manula. Pearls & Jade. NJoy. Jessenia.

Nick's plants and most of the plants sold are the immature form. The mature form has much larger leaves with split sides and needs something to climb up and direct sun for the best leaves. Super impressive when you see them for the first time.

I used to hate golden pothos because they're everywhere around my house and grow on the wall of my house and fence. Now that I started gardening more than a year ago, I admire how resilient and hardy this pothos is. I tried growing them in water and pebbles and also just sand and both are thriving at my windowsill just beside of my right now.

@@joshuarichards8065 Yes. Both the wall and the fence that I said are outdoor. They grow just like weed around my house. The pothos that are growing on my wall are so big. Their leaves size are half of my torso now. Edit: I have 2 of them that I out it indoor. Both the one that I grow in water+ pebbles and just sand are indoor golden pothos. Not much growth for first few months but after I started using fertilizer few months ago, they're quite bushy now.

The theory I've read about pothos is they simply don't need to flower anymore. They're too successful. Flowering takes a lot of energy, and this plant is so prolific at this point that it'll propagate itself when branches break off from strong winds etc, so there's no reason for it to invest energy into flowers.

I saw on another video someone had the massive pothos, growing up instead of vining down .... Would this be because they used one of those moss poles? The plant looked amazing the leaves were huge 😍, would love to try, as a new plant mom I'm not ready to try those big fancy kinds of plants yet so I'd like to stick with the pothos

The pothos we grow in our homes is a very tame version of its full potential. Pothos is a strangling plant, if you plant it on the ground next to a tree, it will climb the tree, grow two-foot wide leaves, and it can strangle the tree, if given enough time. It can be exposed to full sunlight if it has enough water and it can actually grow fully submerged, making for a great aquarium plant as well! It really is the easiest, hardiest and most versatile plant in the world!

Give it some indirect sunlight (away from windows). No direct sunlight. Maybe cutting some clippings might shock it into growing. I use fertilizer all year round, since they keep growing. I have tried these tips with great success for my Pothos, Cebu Blue, Philodendron and Scindapsus. I hope this helps.
