LOVE THIS VIDEO! My absolute favorite with mine was a new baby already getting to the water bottle and drinking! I had lowered one of my bottles expressly for the babies to be able to reach when they were ready, but this was WILD! I usually watch the mom, but try not to be intrusive, just in case she does need help. It is rare, but there are times when the mama cannot give birth on her own. When my Leetchie appeared to be pregnant for what seemed to be 100 years, I did bring her to the vet to get checked out. The vet laughed when he saw her plopped down and when I told him, I brought the culprit too, just so you can check out big daddy while we're already here! Luckily mama, daddy, and babies were fine (he was separated and then neutered later).

It’s mostly in their nature to be skittish. David goes back and forth with scurrying away from me. Sometimes he stops and waits to be picked up...like he’s waiting for me to do it. And other times he runs like the wind. Just depends on his mood. But most of mine run. If they are in a hide they will stand still and let me pet their heads but if I try to scoop them they will move away

Try picking up your piggies REALLY slowly. This allows you to see if they really want to be picked up or not, but mine usually do they don’t run or freak out and the other ones don’t run :)

I got my piggies about 4 months ago and I was told they were both sows. I noticed pokey was getting “bloated” so I took her to the vet today to get her checked… well now I’m watching this video 😂!! My other one, peanut, has been been a boar this whole time! My vet recommended that I go ahead and separate them because mama has started to show aggression towards the other piggy and we don’t want any extra stress on her. They are separated, but still have 8 sq feet of space each and can see each other! Mama is estimated to be 14-20 days so I’m glad I found out earlier on! This video was very helpful and fun to watch! My only question is what happens if I’m not be home when she goes into labor? I’m afraid I will be at work or out and about. My vet said she will be okay if I’m not there but is there anything I can do to make sure she’s safe? I thought about buying a cheap live camera on Amazon so I can check on her periodically while I’m at work through my phone. Am I stressing too much or would that be a good idea? Thanks a bunch! Hi! So there are obviously possibilities of risk when any animal goes under for surgery... but with my 4 males we had a very easy time. You do not need to fast your piggie like you do other animals before surgery. It’s actually dangerous to do so. So send them to the vet in a carrier with a water bowl/bottle and some hay. They will feel more comfortable being able to nest in it and it keeps their digestive track moving. As far As after they say to keep calm for 24 hours. Depending on the vet they will either give antibiotics as a shot or give it you in a liquid form to give them at home. There really isn’t much after care. Just keep and eye on the area and make sure there’s no infection. ✌🏽

So I have a female guinea ready to give birth here soon, she is very pear shaped and you can definitely feel babies moving in her tummy. I keep her in the same cage as my supposed male guinea pig but however, when I put her in a cage by herself (I have no idea when she’ll give birth) she gets super stressed about being alone and will not eat or drink whatsoever and chews the cage. I do try to get her used to it by putting her in there for a couple hours but it’s always the same and I have work every night but I am so worried she’ll give birth with the male in there and I have no idea what to do. I do have my mom check on them, but on days she’s at work, I just get so worried and don’t know what to do! Any advice or anything??

If your guinea pig by now gave birth and the boar is in with her she gets pregnant again. As you might know the female goes into heat a few hours after giving birth and a boar will than make her pregnant. This happened to the mother of our young guinea pig, Little adventures made a video on this because of the surprise baby guinea pig Little One and how she was able to keep him in the herd. Best is to neuter the male and reunite him with her when it’s possible. The mother of our guinea pig got pregnant after giving birth because the owner simply didn’t separate the males and females. We did not liked the situation but were glad that we could take the young guinea pig out of that situation, and she no longer lives with unneutered boars now.

It's never recommended to purposely get guinea pigs pregnant because there are too many risks involved. There is a very high mortality rate for moms and babies

She should be fine. In my experience the mothers have always been ok during the birth process and after. However after rescuing the rose family... Iv had 3 females have liters and in each liter a baby has died. So that might happen. But also it could all be well. In my experience the runts never made it even when I took them to the vet to try and save them. Good luck with everything! And my best advice it to let the momma handle the birth as much as possible on her own and don’t interfere unless absolutely necessary. ✌🏽

24/7 access to hay. And if you don’t want to feed pellets you don’t have to. But 10% of their diet should be veggies. 1 guinea pig should get a cup of veggies a day. But research veggies bc they need a low calcium veggie diet. They love romaine, leafy lettuce, cilantro, bell peppers, carrots, broccoli, cucumbers...

2 years ago i got a 3-4 year old boar at a petco, an hour after his family had dumped him there. he was in excellent health, but had been living in travel size cages which they left with him, all of his supplies actually. between his age and his lack of interest in my girl when i got her 1 year later i assumed he was neutered. he was not. my girl gave birth to a surprise liter 26/27 days ago. 3 healthy boys and a healthy female. i am severely struggling to find homes for all of these babies as i already own 3 full grown sows (including mom) and 2 boars (dad and his 1yo cage mage who i had neutered myself 5 months after i bought him). i'm working towards getting dad neutered so mom can go back to living with her boys as my other two females are extremely aggressive, violent, and territorial towards other guinea pigs because i rescued them from a neglect/abuse home. i wish it was easier to find homes for males, and no one wants to adopt a single female (and i dont want them to unless they have a preestablished herd or at least a single pig they are looking for a companion for)

I'm so not happy adopted a guinea and she can from a reputable rescue and I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow to confirm my suspicions . When i picked her up at the foster house, the lady had 10 un neutered males running free in the house and Bee in a cage with walls only about 2 feet high. Even though I asked , the lady assured me the males couldn't get to her. I think Bee is pregnant at 3 years old, so not happy and hope she will be ok. We will keep the babies, but so hope she got fat fast :(

I don’t think them being at a pet store means they are mean. And depending on where you live it might be the only place to get one. You can always call local shelters because they sometimes get guineas pigs. And there are always some on Craigslist/Facebook getting rehomed. But I have a whole herd that came from a pet store. David and the rose family lived in a pet store for 2-3 years. And I love them all💜💜

Yeah... We were supposed to take home two females and got a male and female and the female was already pregnant.... We got a boy with long hair and blue eyes and a girl that's white and brown with brown eyes. Both parents had brown eyes and were brown and white so we were confused how the male baby was white with blue eyes. We fell in love with guinea pigs and bought another guinea pig because the father hated the male baby so we bought him a friend but the new guinea pig was had bad behavior and the male baby had amazing behavior and the new guinea pig gave him bad behavior so we separated them. We bought another guinea pig for the male baby which is now a dominant male, a girlfriend because he is really rare and we just had to breed him. We waited for the new baby guinea pig fron the store to grow old enough to breed and now we think she is pregnant! ♥️ just wanted to share lol

Good video… it’s fascinating that the babies come out all developed and with their eyes open, etc… if the male isn’t neutered by the time the female gives birth - and the male is present (in with the female when she gives birth), then the female will be pregnant again becaus3 the female goes into season within one hour of giving birth.. And male babies must be separated from their moms and the female babies at 3 weeks old, definitely not any older - because that is about the time that the male baby’s penis can come all the way out… if people wait till 4 weeks to wean the males, then the poor mom will most likely be pregnant again…. I do feel bad that the female babies get to stay with their moms for an extra week or so… but the males have to be put in a different cage…

I have no idea how I did not see it. the only thing that I have noticed different between them and their partner prior to this evening is that they are unusually squishy around the middle 🤦🏻‍♀️ then tonight I noticed..wait where are your testicles 🕵️‍♀️ sure enough...female.
