Hi friends 🌸 Did you know that we can keep our clothes lasting for so much longer by just following some simple steps and learning a little bit more about how to care for fabric? Your clothes will not only last longer, but they will look better, which at least for me makes me feel much more confident wearing them.
As a minimalist I notice the moment something breaks since I only own a few items of clothing, so now I make sure to take extra good care of my clothes. This is also better for the environment as it prevents clothing going to landfill.
If you have any questions or if you would like to see more videos on this topic please let me know in the comments below. I am thinking of making this into a video series where I expand a bit more on different types of fabric in each video!
Thank you so much for watching 🌺

Thank you for the tips about cold water for removing stain and air drying. I think heat destroys clothes

Thank you for putting these good ideas out in the world. I'm so happy you are using your platform for such good purpose. I have been doing these, too, but I'm always behind on my mending. 😆 I have recently learned how to darn socks, and it takes a long time. I try to do it while I'm chatting with my husband, but so often forget! Another tip you didn't mention is to wash everything "wrong side out" or "inside out". This is especially good for line drying. Since we've been drying our clothes outside for decades, they do fade. The INSIDE is faded, but the outside is fine, because I hung them "wrong side out". All winter long and on rainy days, I hang my clothes to dry in the basement, but I have the advantage of a big house. I always put our socks and undies in the dryer on low. Too "lazy" to hang them all, but I think I won't judge myself harshly. I have been hanging everything else up for 25 years or more. I also put our terry cloth towels in the dryer for 20 minutes before hanging them up or when they are almost dry, because that type of towel feels like a board when it is dried in the basement or without any breeze outside. Thanks again!!

I use vinegar, everytime. It softens the clothe and it gives more years to the machine. Detergent half, the soft water, from the vinegar cleans so much more sufficient.

Absolutely love the quality of your content and your health tips, they summarize what took me years to learn via scavenging the internet, plus I always discover something new from you :) Discovered your channel from your husbands channel. Im gonna save these tips as im in the process of trying to "clean" up my life, not just physically but ingredients wise too. I really think the young generations (Gen Z and Millenials) got so used to everything being sold as a solution that we lost ability to think for ourselves. I always thought ..oh look there's a stain, time to throw away. Never thoguht about how much of those stains I could easily clean up on my own. Blessings to youu

My favorite comment ever! Thank you so much, that makes me so happy. That is exactly what I want to do with my videos ! 😊 and completely agree. It took me years to get out of the “buy now” mindset and learn how to do something even if it might be confusing at first!

Thanks for the tip about removing stains. Just what I need. Definitely gonna try it. I mend clothes too. I’m not great at sewing but I can do simple sewing like a small whole or so. Laundry bags are very useful. Great video👍👍👍💛🌼💗

I recently switched over to hang drying my clothes and switched to a more eco friendly detergent. I love it! I love the process of hanging up my clothes. Its definitely an adjustment though, as I also no longer use fabric softener so my clothes arent as soft, but the sacrifices were definitely well worth it. I'm making small changes to help our environment

How great to hear! Yes, especially drying outside. Nothing beats that! Oh and maybe try some vinegar as a fabric softener replacement. Works great!

I too do most of the things that you mention in your video. I stopped using any laundry soap in the washing machine. I switched to using magnesium pellets in a reusable pouch. You just pop the pouch in the washing machine with the clothing. I learned about it from a another KZbin channel. Mostly, I hand wash with Dr. Bronner in a bucket.

I will have to look into magnesium pellets, that sounds very interesting! Do you like using it? I hope to hand-wash when we move into our van. I have seen a family use a bucket and a shower plug (that thing you use to clean the shower drain) and it looked very effective!

@@SagaJohanna I learned about magnesium from Samurai Matcha kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKLUaJ6vj8uojJY. I use the hexawash pouch I bought from SuperBeeEcostore on Etsy. I do like it. It makes your clothes very soft and it doesn't smell like anything. But it doesn't remove stains you need to spot wash before or after. I find it works with hand washing too. And you don't have to use a lot of water for rinsing soap out either. I used home made laundry soap for years, this is better, no mess, no storage space needed, cold water is ok, less water needed and it softens clothes. I tried the scrubba wash bag and I found it heavy, messy, and awkward. I will continue to use the magnesium pellets and sew my own pouches in the future. I'll be off grid in the desert in a desert in a few months, I'm looking for methods that are low impact on the environment.

@@marytawfall Thank you! Since we are moving into a van hopefully soon this is very useful! I also considered a washing bag, but want to avoid plastic and having a wet bag in our van. A bucket seems so much easier. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWKpYYuBZsSoZqs This is the couple that was using two old buckets and a shower drain plug (not sure what they are called in English :)). Can not wait to be off grid myself!

@@SagaJohanna The plunger and bucket looks effective. I"m also considering a portable wooden wash board. But for large items like bedding, I"ll just go to a laundromat. Committing to a van is such a big transition! That could be really fun.

Hi Saga! I was wondering how do you clean your puffer jacket if you don't dry clean it? I have one as well and I have never cleaned it at home... Thanks!
@SagaJohanna
@SagaJohanna Жыл бұрын
Hej Saga (!) 😍 I clean it on a gentle cycle, inside out with all zippers closed, in the washing machine. No or minimum spin. If you have a dryer or it’s very thick I suggest putting it in a dryer with 2-4 tennis balls. This will hit the jacket to make it puffy again and even out the fluff. Since mine is quite thin and I don’t have a dryer I dried mine in the sun and “beat” it a few times and that worked fine. Hope that helps! 🥰

I love all your suggestions but please don’t use the wool balls for the dryer. The wool industry is very cruel and unsustainable. ✌🏻🙏🏻💚
