How to catch an Armadillo

This worked and we caught the perpetrator in one night! No bait or anything needed. Thank you so much for this tip! We had gotten rid of our traps so I bought one late last night. We used some 2x6 boards I had on hand and it only took about 10 minutes to set up at 11:00pm. We woke up this morning and the Texas speed bump was caught!

What do you use to ATTRACT it into the trap? There’s almost no way to guarantee it’s just going to happen to wander into an empty trap… I have one that is DESTROYING my garden EVERY night, and I finally have a live trap but don’t know how to entice it

Some people use worms, sardines, or over-ripe fruit but it isn't necessary. They are attracted to the scent of other armadillos. He could put leave the armadillo in the trap for around 12 hours so it will leave a scent in that spot. That will attract other armadillos to that spot. I use a wooden trap. They leave their scent in the wood of the trap. That allows me to move the trap to other locations and it still has the attractive scent. The nice thing about that trap is that the more you catch the better it works. Check the trap at least once daily. If you leave them in the trap more than 24 hours or if they die in the trap, the trap will be ruined and you will never catch any more with it.

The best bet is to use funneling, boards in a wide V shape to direct them into the trap. There are some baits out there but I haven't seen any that are super effective. There are some wooden traps, Trap-a-dillo, that are supposedly more attractive because they have armadillo scent in them, I haven't used one to verify though

I'm just N of Owasso and it only took two nights for 1/4! of our front yard to be torn to hell. We water, unlike neighbors so it's much easier for them to get to their grubs in our yard. Going to try this for a couple night and then get some attractant if needed.

I have a wooden trap with the 2 trap doors and caught about a dozen this year. I have had them break open the wire mesh traps because they are that strong. If you're in a humid area, the wooden traps warp and swell. It's a struggle. Trying to work on a good design that requires minimum maintenance. The armadillo baits do not work. Do not buy them. Waste of money

Funny you say that, I just had one break the door of one of my cage traps. I've seen the 2 door wooden traps, and read that people have alot of luck with them, especially once the trap gets a good armadillo scent to it.

This is not even anywhere practical for my yard. My yard is sprawling. I am trying to figure out where the bastard is going during the daytime. I have every possible hiding spot blocked. There is a creek down below the backyard, but why would he travel 800 feet just to dig up the front yard? He is ruining it!.
