Thank you Scot, never caught one as yet. I will catch one hopefully this year.

HI there from Christchurch. This is a really great instructional video. I made drawings and am looking to have a go this summer, even though we don't really get very large kingfish down here. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience.

Thanks for the positive feedback Martin, with the water warming seasonally you should hopefully see more kingfish down your way. Scaling it back a bit to 80lb leader and 30lb or 50lb main line may be an advantage if the terrain isn't too rough. You may have seen my video on using smaller live baits, that may be helpful if you plan to use large yellow eyed mullet for livies....the other tip would be to cast a surface lure to try and draw any passing kings to your spot where they will find the live bait. This helps increase your chances by covering lots more water......good luck and let me know if you hook one 👍

Hi Scott, what knot you use to tie the leader to the hook I found over 100lb leader can be so rigid and hard to make a good knot many thanks

Clinch knots work fine, instead of 6 turns, maybe do 4-5 and make sure it is pulled up tight and is not slipping under pressure before you send out the kahawai.
@ilexwang7155 жыл бұрын
instructive as always, tried live-bait off rocks before, the issue for me was not be able to get Kahawai to swim outwards and far out enough (say 10-30m off the rocks), they tend to always stay on the shoreline

Plenty of kahawai have been eaten in close. If you have the berley going, the kingfish will come in and find your bait....

Do you have a video on the kingfish you caught in the thumbnail? It looks massive!!😳

I use thin strands of copper wire as my balloon ties.. perfect! 🙂
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like they could work well - what happens when the copper wire breaks, is there some way to stop the balloon from drifting off?

Thanks Scott. Learning a lot through your videos. Up until recently I had only fished on the big plastic hand reels - always got a feed whether it was khawhai, snapper, eel or kelpfish but enjoying the game and technique of rod fishing.

HI Scott here is a question. would you be able to use a float instead of the balloon similar to the live piper rig shown in other video. This is to save you from having hassle of replacing the balloon if bursts or deflates etc. thanks
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it would have to be a large heavy float for a ky. I have been thinking about a set up that has a sliding snap so that the balloon or float can release but not be discarded - ebay.to/2UCYYOc

So the balloon is left to float in the ocean? is there a way to do this without polluting?
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches4 жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry for the late reply, yeah good point. I am looking at a system that could be rigged up to avoid this. Using a very large polystyrene float that doesn't break away is a possible option.

Its best to so the fish doesn't swim dep and tangle/snag the line and so that its easy for the kingfish to eat it.
