Speckled Trout, or as some call them Sea Trout are one of the most popular inshore game fish to target, and in this video I narrate a tutorial of how to catch trophy speckled trout easy. I figured instead of doing a boring seminar inside my office or at my house to actually go out and catch these Sea Trout while showing and telling how to catch them!
Video: Speckled Trout (Sea Trout) Fishing Tips
Location: Mid-Atlantic
Application of Techniques: East Coast and Gulf Coast Inshore Saltwater Areas that hold Sea Trout and Speckled Trout
Tackle:

Check our other tutorials and vids for more tips and techniques on Sea Trout, Redfish, and other inshore saltwater species. Now get up off your keester and catch some fish! Oh, and if you have any suggestions on vids or anything give us a holler, drop a comment. We are always open to suggestions

Addicted to Specks in the surf/inlets for 35yrs (Topsail/Buxton). Hoping for no freezes this year. surf tip- Find holes/bars at low tide in daylight, then fish those holes the last 4 hours of a falling tide in the dark, with dark/black pattern Mirrolures, . Awesome fun to find a school at night, all by yourself.

Trout are a lot more fun to catch on lighter line like 6 or 8 pound mono with a 15 or 20 lb fluorocarbon leader. You’ll get longer casts and better feel of a bite.

Louisiana is where it’s at, Baw. For you guys on the east coast that enjoy saltwater fishing, SE Louisiana needs to be on your bucket list. It’s truly a Sportsman Paradise. The speck and red fishing is the greatest in the country. Offshore is amazing as well. You can run 30 miles down the mouth of the Mississippi River and hit open water where the yellowfin fishing is second to none

"Red drum" means red drum or channel bass and is any fish of the species Sciaenops ocellatus. “Snout” means the most forward projection from a fish’s head that includes the upper and lower jaw. "Speckled trout" means speckled trout or spotted seatrout and is any fish of the species Cynoscion nebulosus.

What kind of braided line do you use to get the best cast
@obxkoastie8170
@obxkoastie8170 5 жыл бұрын
Jeff uses 20#. For specks I never use more than 8# Fireline Crystal in the surf and 4# Fireline Smoke in the sound. There is no speckled trout you are going to catch that will break 4# braid if you have your drag set right. The lower to test rating, the farther the cast. I like Fireline but have used PowerPro, Daiwa, Sufix, etc but always come back to the Fireline Crystal. Less wind knots is the main reason. Jeff is right on with the necessity of a fluorocarbon length of leader. I use a size 10 Spro swivel and about two feet of 14# Vanish fluorocarbon. Just be careful not to pull the swivel through your rod tip or eventually you will crack the tip and whatever other guide you hit. You can try an FG knot but with really light braid and leader I have not been successful.

Yes. Once again you have to find the holes where they congregate or structure. It takes a lot of time on the beach to get real good at catching them. Always remember: If the only reason you go fishing is to catch fish then you missed the whole reason for going fishing.

The fish kill was last winter in January - March in the tributaries where the trout go to winter over. NC had a ban on catching and keeping trout until June 15 and still limit the fish to 14" and only 4 per day.

Thanks for the info. I was out fishing during that period but stayed north of the state line during that time, mostly. So somehow I missed it. Usually, I'm on the Elizabeth or the North Landing rivers that time of year. After this storm passes and things settle down a bit I"ll probably go out on the Elizabeth to see if I can find some trout or drum. The water is probably still a little warm for catching them in the flats so I"m going to check some steep drop-offs and a couple place where I know there's underwater structure as well as along the bridge and dock pilings.

Lmmfao ! Moral here ... fish or stupid and hungry like a crack head in needing a fix and everything is fair game when they are there and there hungry ! True story ! LMMFAO !
