Thx you. I'm debating whether to do this or try to find factory lights from a salvage yard as they are around $700 each new... my lenses are crap & I hv a low beam that doesn't work at all. We've changed the bulb, ballast, checked fuses etc.. You'd think as much as cars cost these days they could find a clear coating that wouldn't yellow

Nah. It will just happen again with the oem. Probably with the aftermarket too. The problem is the sun beating on that type plastic. There is a process by 3m that some people perform. It works, its a few hundred dollars, but have to find someone to have it or do it. This solution has its ups and downs. Yes its a brand new setup, but, it will and you can bet your ass that it will, leak. ALL aftermarket lights leak after a certain time. Unless you seal the seems, which I did not do, with epoxy or something that is water repellant, a good silicone. But even then, who knows, all your doing is buying time with the hope that it will never bring in moisture.

I’m putting in new headlights on my 2012 maxima and the head ballast is totally different.. is this the route I’d have to take??
@richideates Жыл бұрын
Is it factory HID? If so, not sure. These were not factory HID. The wiring might be different. I wouldnt be able to tell without seeing them. Does the housing have a box/ballast attached to it? Heres a good way to tell. What kind of bulb is in there??

Do you use resistors only if you're going the HID route correct? Because im doing led everything....
@richideates Жыл бұрын
No. Led are the ones that need resistors. Usually only on the turn signal lights. It prevents them from hyperflashing. Leds for the headlights, depend on the car and what you buy. Hids never really need resistors. They need can bus communication which is sometimes sold separately, but nowadays is built into the ballast.

I had a 2009 Maxima S and I was able to add LED bulbs and simply add a resistor. Totaled the car and bought the same car but it’s an SV. I figured I’d do the same and change out the assembly’s the same way. After I did so, the lights all worked but I couldn’t start the car. The SV has HID for the projector and the old car didn’t, is this why it won’t start? After watching your video I’m thinking I might have needed to buy and install those HID units that you did. Any thoughts on that?

Well as far as the car not starting? No, I would not link the two with each other. Factory HID wasnt as bad for some Nissans. I actually used an aftermarket ballast one time and it worked for the factory. But as far as not starting. Not a clue. Did you put it back to factory and see if it solved the problem? Meaning, if you switched everything back to stock? Did it start? Then switch back to aftermarket. I cant see that being the case but you never know. Maybe it blew a fuse?

@@richideates thanks for your response. I was going to have a local guy come with his scanner and he suggested that I put everything back as it was and see if it starts. He thinks if it started with no problem prior to me messing with the lighting that it’s likely that the computer doesn’t like what I did and therefore isn’t starting.

So wait. The SV has the factory HID setup, correct? If so, why did you replace the whole assembly? Were they all dulled out and you couldnt see? You can always get them restored and it will rejuvenate the lights as if new again.

@@richideates No, I like to add a lot of mods and I found a pair of cool after market assemblies. They came with incandescent wired lousy dim bulbs so I ripped that out and wired plugs to take whatever LED bulb I want. Here's what happened, it was a coincedance that after I swapped the lights that the car wouldn't start. I checked every fuse that I thought was related to starting and had it towed to a shop. the tow, the diagnostic and IT WAS A FUSE, $275 fuse, I missed. Had nothing to do with the lights at all but I assumed I caused it, ugh.

Rule 101..check EVERY FUSE..its never just this or that..ALL OF THEM ARE CULPRITS..and now you know..that sucks..sorry to hear that

How much should someone charge for this? I need to get mine done lol great job btw!
@richideates2 жыл бұрын
Well he supplied everything. Labor alone was around 300. But dont forget the supplies. The supplies were probably around close to 500..I dont know what the headlights cost and I never looked. But the bulbs werent that bad in an amazon shopping cart.

@richideats how much would you charge to install for me also from New Jersey
@richideates Жыл бұрын
Its a lot of work. The small video you see is a fraction of what is actually involved. You terrible thing about youtube. If everyone showed you every step, no one would watch. 🤣🤣🤣..but seriously, 5-600 bucks, depending on what you want done. That video was every buln in the front was replaced including the housings. A good days worth of work. But im up for it if you are. Let me know. But you dont HAVE TO do all of it like the video. But its worth it to do so because EVERYTHING is wide open when the bumper is removed.

Damn they look nice after. I want to dump my original lights but I'm sure it's gonna be costly.
@richideates2 жыл бұрын
I dont think it was that bad as far as price..but I did not pay for it. I just charged for install. I dont even remember it being that bad with everything that I did. I would say on the high side. 400 for labor aside for the parts. I am going to try to start putting in links to my videos for the parts. I shouldve thought of that from the beginning..🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤣🤣

Do you have a link to where you bought the headlight assembly? Or seller from Amazon?

Updated the description. See if that helps. Thanks for watching.
