Mechanic told me years ago that when you get a new vehicle always buy a new serpentine belt and store it in the vehicle. It's an easy fix, it's getting the part that usually complicates the repair. As you said keep the old one as spare.

One thing my dad taught me about these belts will also work on your riding mower. If for some reason you can nit find a diagram, can not see it, have to do it by feel, remember this “smooth to smooth and groove to groove”. If the surface is smooth, then the smooth part of the belt rides on it. If it is grooved, then the ribbed part of the belt faces it. Great video.

Coming from a guy who's had to replace several serpentine belts on the side of the road in every kind of good and bad weather event you can imagine, in both my own and a surprising number of friends vehicles, this is all really good stuff to know before you lean in under that hood. The advice about saving the old belt has come in handy for me a few times but for some reason I haven't done that in a while. Will remember next time for all of them though.

Always good tutorials for those who may not be as mechanically proficient as others! I carry a spare belt with me in case the "rubber band" breaks while on a trip, etc. Also a good idea to inspect the idler and tensioner pulley bearings for slop, noise, etc.

Another pro tip: When you're setting the new belt into place on the pulleys, make your last one a smooth pulley that is grooveless. The grooved ones often have a lip that is harder to get the belt up and over

When my brother and I changed the AC compressor on my 2008 Range Rover it took use longer to refit the secondary serpentine belt than to do the compressor. I wouldn't say it is an easy job. Certainly not always. Can be very confusing. Note where the flat surface and grooved surfaces go.
