Kinda surprised you didn’t spend the 5 minutes to pull your slide pins and clean and re-grease them for cheap insurance since you already had your calipers off. Your rig is looking pretty cool. Dig those diesels! How often do you power bleed your brake fluid? Looked pretty dark and the fluid is hygroscopic. Really dig the maintenance videos. Thanks for sharing...

If you undo the bleed nipple when pushing the piston back it is easier and no need to worry about the other end leaving the lid on it with the bleed screw open. I put a bit of copper grease on the slide pin.

Certainly wouldn't hurt to do that. I didn't in this instance but it sounds like something I might adopt in the future 🙂

There are the handbrake shoes inside the disk housing...love to see them changed.

Not in a patrol they dont. They have a drum brakes on the drive shaft.

You should have a metal backing plate between the pad and caliper to stop the sqeeling standard Patrol thing

Yeah it's the ToolPRO 198 piece. Pretty solid kit! You won't be wanting more sockets thats for sure!

Some people would say you do. If your brakes are pulsating when you apply them then yes they would need machining or replacing. Also if they are too thin, or too worn.

First off i think your Chanel is great. But you did the brakes wrong! If you unscrew the brake fluid cap first. That stops the pressure from backing up in the reservoir. But never press the brake pedal without having the cap on or you run the risk of getting air in the system. Have a great day

It continually amazes me how non qualified persons can teach other non qualified people how to do mechanical work! There are other things to consider when changing brakes. Things like the thickness of the rotors, what if the pads have worn unevenly, how does an inexperienced person know this and what are the remedies of this. It is now mandatory that mechanical work such as brakes and steering be carried out by a qualified mechanic with a MVR license. If they aren't, then if the vehicle is involved in an accident, then the insurance is null and void, and if there are injuries or death because of it, then the person who carried out the repairs is culpable! So you tell me, what is easier? You may be great 4wders, but don't kid yourselves, you are not QUALIFIED mechanics.

Hi David, People are going to do this no matter what..........Is it not better that they are given some basic skills through this such medium? Perhaps better still you could do a more comprehensive guide with ‘legal wavers’ attached and we will all be wiser and safer. This is of course is presuming that you know what you are talking about - are you a mechanic? If ‘backyarders’ are careful and attentive - seeking guidance where required this job is very easy and is a good cost saving. Not only that, but doing such work on our own truck helps us 4WD’s become familiar with it for emergency situations when we are far from help.

@@krecha1 I have been a mechanic for 42 years. There is more to replacing brakes than swapping out pads. Understanding the complexities of braking systems is something you learn during the course of your apprenticeship not from watching some amateur on KZbin. When you are careering into another vehicle, about to kill or maime someone because you wanted to save a few dollars, I hope you can then live with yourself knowing you just killed someones son, daughter etc. Brakes, steering and suspension are critical in how a vehicle stops. Anything else you amateurs play with will not have such a detrimental effect on the safety of other road users.

David you missed the point - people are going to do it anyway and as such people such as yourself could provide appropriate guidance rather than novices trying to wing-it. I do not and have not suggested that the job is insignificant in its safety implications. Rather than getting your back-up perhaps you could view things in perspective or else stopping watching such videos in order to keep your frustrations in-check. And yet another point that you missed is that many 4WD’s do these such jobs so that can get out of trouble in the middle of the Simpson Desert because they are at least partly familiar with how things work. Don’t tell me that work done by a Qualified Mechanic will always mean that nothing will go wrong at the worst possible time. If you think otherwise, then clearly you have no idea about 4wding nor the impact it has on our vehicles. Regards Krecha

@@krecha1 As a matter of fact Krecha, I have not missed the point. Just because people are going to do it anyway, does not mean it should be encouraged. I see things in perfect perspective as I see the stuff ups by so called KZbin mechanics quite regularly. I don't need you or anyone else to keep my frustrations in check...I get very annoyed and insulted that people like yourself think that mechanics is something every Tom, Dick or Harry can do and that when we spend four years of our lives and on pittance to call ourselves mechanics to have backyard mechanics doing our work instead. Are you going to take responsibility for a vehicle accident causing death because that person watched your video and did their brakes themselves and stuffed it up. No, I didn't think so.
