First off, let me apologize for the lack of an intro video. The software I used to make my video had some issues and caused the intro portion to be wonky. It was like watching an old Chinese Kung Fu movie with poorly timed voiceovers.
Now to our DIY for today! I am happy to show you’ll how to change your DSG and Haldex fluids. My S3 recently turned 60K so I thought it would be a fantastic time to perform both services. This maintenance action item is vital to the long-term reliability of your DSG and Haldex systems. Overall, the task was not difficult; I’d rate it a 4 on a scale of 1-10. The most difficult part, is making sure your DSG has the proper fluid levels, otherwise you could cause catastrophic problems. Don’t worry though, I’ll show you what needs to be done.
For the DSG Service, you’ll need the following items:
- 5-6 liters of DSG fluid
- DSG filter & O-ring
- drain plug crush washer
- VagCom cable or program to monitor DSG temperature
- product to fill your DSG fluid
- appropriate tools
For the Haldex Service
- 850ml of Haldex fluid
- product to fill your Haldex fluid
- appropriate tools
As always my friends, thank you for watching and supporting my channel! As The Audi S3 Fanatic grows, I will be adding different video projects into the DIY mix.
If you have a vehicle you would like featured on my channel, let’s get together and talk!
Until the next time my friends, this is Peter, The Audi S3 Fanatic!

Sir, thank you for the great video. I see that you serviced the Haldex pump without undoing and removing the electrical cable. Can you elaborate a bit on that one? My cable has a withered hull, the two little cables inside are visible. The hull was green and totally crisp, almost looking like oxidized copper. I know there is an electrical connector on the other end connecting to the little "computer" for the Haldex, and I fear to try to undo/open that electrical connector. Do you know how to do it without it breaking? I'm not familiar at all with electrical connectors on these modern cars. I have an Audi S1 from 2015. Also, another youtuber-mechanic was doing some stuff with an OBD or similar computer, checking or resetting something when he had removed the Haldex pump after refitting it. What would that be about?? Surely you can change the oil without involving computers?

@TheAutomotiveFanatic
@TheAutomotiveFanatic 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jon and thank you for supporting my channel. To answer your question, yes, the book states to fill the DSG fluid from underneath. I chose to fill it from the filter housing because it's simply faster. Fluid runs straight down the hose as opposed to down a hose, make a U bend and back up the filler port. The most important item though, is making sure the fluid is properly leveled off, irregardless of how you fill it.

I’ve already done this service awhile ago, but my paranoia has gotten the best of me and I’m getting ready to do the dsg service again for peace of mind because I may have installed the plug prematurely last time around. @TheAutomotiveFanatic

@@mikehawk8609 the proper was to "level" the fluid is to use an OBD scanner which can read the DSG fluid temp. You want to run the fluid to 36* celcius then open the drain. There isn't a specific "time" on how long I let it drain before closing it back up. I basically allowed it to come to a slow trickle, then closed it up. Refer to 18:14 in the video.

@@TheAutomotiveFanatic I didn't see any tools at HFT that would exactly work, so I cobbled together a few tools of my own available from Amazon and your local Blue/Orange/Red Home Improvement Store. Not sure if the Haldex connectors are the same for Haldex Gen 2. My vehicles are all Gen 4. For the DSG Transmission Tool (VAS6262), I used a short run of 3/8" ID Tubing, available from Lowe's Depot Ace. For the bottle end, you will need one of these generic screw on connectors (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WSHY3X6). If you are filling from the top, per the video, you are good to go. If you are filling by-the-book, you will need a VAS6262-1 connector at the bottom for the transmission end (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08Z7SZ161). For the Haldex AWD Tool (VAS6291), I purchased this fluid pump (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00329VL3G) designed for a purpose just like this. A little Vinyl tubing is included. I also got fancy and bought an M10x1 angled connector (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DR61JQY). My goal with the connector was to save as much precious $$$ fluid as I could. However, I feel I may have just wasted more fluid because I could not tell when the clutch really was full.

Thank you for the fast reply. I am currently looking online for more information. I saw another video and they state between 35-45c. I rechecked my temperature while on level ground and at idle. Using my scanner and temperature reached 50c. So I will be doing the service again for peace of mind and recheck the temperature again

madc0bra2, I ended up using close to 5 liters. The remaining liter or so will remain inside your transmission. If you want to be safe, order 6 liters, but I'm certain, you will not use it all.

How much oil you actually drained for leveling the oil? I just want to know how much oil at least needs to be inside after leveling.
@TheAutomotiveFanatic
@TheAutomotiveFanatic Жыл бұрын
Byun, that is a tough question to answer because I did not measure the amount of fluid that drained out when it leveled. Here is my suggestion and what some others have done. Measure the amount of fluid that you drain TOTAL, then replace that amount and a little more once you're done. It's not an exact amount, but should get you close.

I finished DSG oil change last week, filling up 5 liters and drained at 35 C degree, but oil drained a lot, I am so worried if it is ok to drain that much and I feel like only 3.5~4 liters are inside of the DSG. Do you think I need to fill up more through filter?
@TheAutomotiveFanatic
@TheAutomotiveFanatic Жыл бұрын
@@byunpaul8344 I reviewed my service record and I filled up with 5 quarts. The amount which came out though, was perhaps 1/2quart, maybe more. What I would do if you're paranoid, fill up with another quart and repeat the leveling process.

30,000 miles is way to high before you service Haldex, independent specialists recommend every 10,000 and that includes a pump strainer clean.
@TheAutomotiveFanatic

@Nick, I completely agree. After seeing how easy it is to service the Haldex, I would consider 15K a reasonable service interval.
