Very nice video. But, why do you support the assembly slightly when tightening the bolts? Sort of pre-loading it?

Thank you for the feedback! This video is considered to be an informative one, and it shows the sequence of repairs, so some stages of the repairs might have been excluded. Best regards, Autodoc.

Even though this is 2 years old, adding reply in case anyone else comes looking for information... Yes, you must pre-load the lower control arm before final tightening mounting bolts to manufacturer's torque spec. Use "blue" loctite or another threadlocker brand on the bolts (NOT the red stuff!). Older manuals used to say that the car had to be back on the ground, with weight on the heels, before finally tightening bolts to spec. I think it's easier to pre-load the assembly using a floor jack or bottle jack; just make sure the jack is very secure and won't slip out. Whether you use the jack to pre-load or the weight of the car, the lower control arm should be pre-loaded before tightening blots to "final torque".

I am having difficulty getting the bolt out where the ball joint is. The other two freed up nicely. I used lots of penetrating oil and left the nut flush with the end of the bolt and pounded it for hours and it won’t budge. Any advice on how I can get it out?

Thank you for your feedback! According to the description it is difficult to understand how to solve your problem, however, it is likely that a special tool is required to maintain the chassis of your car. We strongly recommend not to do the maintenance yourself, and contact the service. Best regards, Autodoc!

I am doing one this week. What is the spec on the TorQue for the arm? Is it better to get a torque wrench or an impact gun? Will harbor frieght impact gun work? or Air impact? rent a breakerbar or toque wrench, please help?
@autodocuk6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback! To do such replacement, it is recommended that you use wrench with the correct tightening torques. Unfortunately, using of the pneumatic tools is not the best choice. If you use an impuct gun for arms, then, to do it correctly, use also rubber end so that you could avoid arm damage. The bolts tightening torque is 79-96 Nm.Best regards, Autodoc.

I had exact same issue with my 2007 Santa Fe after about 200k miles. Problem was bad ball joint. You must pull the Control Arm to replace the ball joint, so might as well just buy a new Control Arm with the Ball joint installed already (about $75 at places like Rockauto or 1AAuto). Depending on how many miles your car has you might want to do both sides. Also, be sure to check your inner and outer tie rods and the sway bar links as long as your in there. IMPORTANT - be sure to TORQUE the control Arm bolts to spec (I think it's 130Ft-Lbs but double check).

For those, who are going to do same for the fist time, please note, to release the ball joint go down is not an easy thing, and same to get in the new one. how do you replace just the ball joint? Presumably you still have to remove the control arm anyway
@Spadar_AZ3 жыл бұрын
@@Ifixitagain Yes. Right this way more convenient. You take of the arm. Then you need to take of the ball joint Fixing Ring. And you need to have some Spacers, I made from different pipe diameter.
