Wow Cecil, you are fortunately located in Florida where they use an external transformer to convert 120v to 12v, because in California we send the full 120v to the bulb using a Ground Fault Interruptor (GFIC) to “hopefully” cut the power in time when a short occurs. LED replacement is not recommended on the Pentair Pool Light specifically warning that not using an incandescent flood bulb creates a risk of injury or death. WELCOME TO DIY HELL, when in doubt call a professional who is trained “hopefully” in keeping kids and adults healthy and happy; or not, as the case may be. Penny wise pound foolish especially when lives are at stake.

I have the older type of enclosure... a lot of separate clamps all around to loosen and then re-tighten. I'm also replacing with an an LED bulb, just white. But I know that if any water gets in there, that LED is going to be destroyed. So in addition to a new gasket, would you recommend adding any kind of "O-ring sealer" all around it as an extra precaution?

You really have to replace the gasket each time. They wear out long before the bulb will. And leaking water in will really ruin any kind of bulb. The gasket is cheap, just change it every time.

He had already replaced the halogen lamp with the new LED lamp prior to recording the video, and then just showed unscrewing the LED lamp and putting it right back in to show how the removal and installation is done. I agree that it was slightly confusing to show it this way.

Yes, so be very careful & if your not comfortable pay a professional to replace it. Also you should replace the seal anytime you remove the cover to change the bulb. Using a old seal is just asking for water to get inside the light. Hope that helps even though it's been several months since your question. 👍

Why did ABC Pools here in Austin Tx just charge me $1200 to replace an LED light?!? Mine only has 3 LEDs. It is a Pentair system. Are there some that cost that much and if so WHY? I really wish you were local here!

@@jddurango Good question. That is what they told me the replacement for my light cost. They are a reputable pool repair company in the area. I asked if there were cheaper alternatives. Even the all white led was pretty expensive and I think I would have had to change all 3 in the pool to switch to that.

I recently disassembled our pool light thinking I would just replace the gasket [if interested view my video kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXjbkoJpaLaCjsk] - NO, I opened Pandora's Box! If we decide to install a new light it cost upwards of 1K; consequently we decided to not install a new light! We have outdoor porch lights covering the pool area. Last week we had a Electrician assess our electric circuit for the swimming pool light and electric socket on the picket fence; he tested the circuitry for shorts and eliminated safety hazards; he removed the wiring connection in the junction box for the swimming pool light and safely insulated them to prevent electric arcs and confirmed that the electric socket on the picket fence has power. I plan to reassemble the gasket and lens to the light housing and reinstall back into the niche. The swimming pool is safe because there is no electricity fed into the circuit.

I did notice he did not install the light into the pool housing properly, the bottom of the light was not in the retainer and so it was only held in by the screw at the top.
