The garage door shown in this video has two pieces at the bottom: one piece holds the cable attached to the counterbalance spring and the other holds the roller. Some doors only have one piece at the bottom that serves the two purposes - there is nothing that can be removed that just holds the roller as this video shows. If you have one piece at the bottom then you need to use the procedure to bend the rails. That's why those videos are out there. This was the case for my door and bending the rails is not hard. I used an old ratchet extension to place inside the rail when I hammered the shape of the rail back into place.
@andreamitchell47587 жыл бұрын
yeah my door has 3 star bolts on the bottom bracket i removed them all but the bracket will not come off it seems like it is attached from the side too where the cable attaches to it there must be some way to get it off
@rwgeach7 жыл бұрын
you don't even have to bend the track on the singles. just open the door until the rollers are between 2 of the track mounts and pop the roller out of the track with the claw side of a hammer. please don't ever mess with the bolts on the bottom bracket. it will be the $20,000 garage door roller change when the hospital bill comes in.

Yes, it was inatalled upside down. And not everyone has a bottom bracket like that. Mine and most others are one piece with the additional bracket that his was attached to (having to remove 4-6 screws) - which then nececitates that bending of the track method. Actually very easy to do that way, also.

Should have watched this video before I removed the first hinge on my left bottom door when it was under tension. Almost screwed up the right hand track when the door dropped and bent it............Was able to to get the hinge and roller installed after raising the garage door fully and straightened out the right side track. All the other rollers were installed with no problem and saved the right hand bottom roller for last and followed this video's instruction with no problem whatsoever..........Thanks bro

With much fear and trepidation, I went ahead and tried this. I double and triple-checked the tension on the cable. It worked great. I so much appreciate not having to take the track off or bend the track as others have suggested. I'm looking forward to years of smooth garage door opening with less sound.

This is a simple method for you. But my bracket also holds the cable END itself.. the cable is a little loose when the door is all the way up, but I don't know if it's loose enough to wear if I take that bracket off it's not gonna snap and go somewhere where I'm gonna have a real problem putting it all back together. Do you have a solution for this type of bracket?

I started to use this method but when I examined the bottom bracket I found that the cable bracket was bolted to the door and the roller bracket was bolted to the cable bracket and isolated from the cable attachment. The door in this video looks like it has the same exact mounting brackets as mine. I was able to just remove the two nuts on the bottom of the roller bracket without disturbing the cable attachment. Take a look at your door hardware and you might find that it is easier to change than you imagine. However, I did find when I raised the door to its full up position there was plenty of slack in the cable to use the method demonstrated in this video.

@spencerstreet Жыл бұрын
Most brackets are not designed like that. That is a 2 piece bottom bracket which is much more accessible. Loosening the bolts on a solid bracket, even at the top, would be much more challenging and dangerous as the cables still have tension with the door open, although much less. Good tips for this type of door but seriously do be careful when repairing these things, you can find yourself in a bad situation quick. Note: I sell/repair garage doors for a living (10years experience).

Raise the garage door. Disconnect the vertical track from the horizontal where they join. Remove the top lag bolt for the vertical track. Pull the vertical track away a bit. Lower the garage door a few inches to drop the bottom roller just below the horizontal track. Replace the roller. Reconnect the horizontal and vertical tracks. Replace the lag bolt. Quick, easy, no need to remove the bottom roller bracket or concern yourself with the cable tension. Go to 4:35 in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5jRmZqeppiMnLs

I agree that bending the track is cheesy, but it's the second best method I've seen. The best involves a special tool that can pop the rollers in and out. A note on bending the track, most people bend it _way_ more than they need to. It doesn't take much. O, and that is one beefy door you have there. Somebody built it like they meant it. Either that or you live in a hurricane area.

Don't do it. Read the comments below first. This does not work for the one-piece bottom plate. Look at the video, the plate that connect the cable is still secured on the door. I was fooled by this video, and now my cable is all untangled. I would probably have to rewind the garage door tension in order to fix it.
@RonaldFrazier15 жыл бұрын
Indeed. He says "you're gonna see just how easy it is." Well, yeah...how easy it is when you have an intelligently designed bottom bracket. Unfortunately, for some reason 95% of us don't seem to have a bracket designed quite so intelligently with separate plates for the cable and wheel.
@braindeadbtch4 жыл бұрын
Ya I took the bracket off while the door was all the way closed thinking bolts on the other side were still holding it in place & it shot up so fast it bent the door when it got stuck in the next wheel in the line. Now I'm hoping like hell that piece is strong enough to keep the wire from breaking or slipping around the wheel somehow & all the while I have to figure out how to get that bracket back in place. I'm going to try and open the door all the way & if it's my time to die the bracket will slip through past the next wheel, if not then I can bolt it back in place. Either way I need to hurry because this isn't my house & I dont have ANY money to call in someone to help! Blonde moment for the sures!!
@rpk55684 жыл бұрын
To easy and things are never that easy. It may work on your door, where the roller has its own bracket. But mine is attached to the part with the cable on it, and the roller thru holes are part of that bracket so the part that has the cable has to be completely removed to replace the roller. And yea, you put it back together upside-down. Good show! Unless you know what you're doing do not attempt this job. You may put it back together wrong.

Good video but DON"T do it this was until you are very sure of the the type bottom bracket you have. Most today, including my double door, have the cable attachment as part of the lower roller bracket. Do not remove that type of bracket or you may be very sorry. For that type just bend the track rail back a bit as shown in other videos, pull the door and roller assembly out of the track, change rollers and reverse the procedure. . I lock out or unplug the motor, pull the manual release and raise the door manually, it's easier to line it up with the spot in the track you've bent back.

I agree 100%. These home depot rollers are complete garbage. Don't even waste ten cents on them. After I changed all my rollers, half of them failed and fell apart in about 3 months. I had ball bearings all over the floor and the garage door was falling off the track. If you look in the description, I linked the rollers that I bought when I had to change them out again. They were a few more dollars but its like night and day. Not one single problem with them. They are tough and quiet and designed to last. Industrial strength....
