How to Change The Brakes and Rotors on a 2010-2014 Nissan Rogue

Here I demonstrate the step by step process of how to Change the brakes and rotors on a 2010-2014 Nissan Rogue. Though I don't actually change the rotors in this demonstration I explain and show you how you would do it in the event you are changing the brakes and rotors on your vehicle.

I just change the brakes and rotors on my 2015 Nissan rogue, it is the exact same deal. Literally looks exactly the same.

Also just used a pair of channel lock pliers to push the pistons back down, versus a clamp. It worked out nicely. It was my very first time ever doing anything that deep on a vehicle.

Good job! But there’s another way where you remove only one bolt if not changing the rotor. It is located at the back on the caliper towards the front. Recommend the bottom one on the caliper at the back and not the top. Once removed you just lift the caliper upward, remove the pads and guide, reinsert the new pads and guide along with the warning wear attachments. Push back in the piston to allow for the thickness of the new pads. Retighten the bolt and voila, you’re done. Recommend cleaning the caliper, piston areas with a small hard or wire brush.

Why remove the entire caliper assembly just to replace the pads?

Robert Rolley, some vehicles do have inserts from the rear of the caliper that you can slide the old ones out and slide the new ones in; however, this Nissan does not have that option. Even so the piston inside the caliper can be difficult to push back to make space for the new pads in that type of situation so sometimes the easiest thing to do is remove the entire caliper. But you are correct some vehicles do have the option of sliding them out without removing the caliper but this one unfortunately does not.

@@bullseyenate231 You can typically just loosen the one caliper bolt and just fold the caliper down off the rotor. Instead of removing the whole caliper. I think that's what he was saying.

If you are doing it yourself and just doing the front brakes and rotors probably around 300. You could look online and probably find cheaper deals but sometimes those are less quality rotors and brakes. Just be sure to look at reviews and ratings.

The replacement parts come with grease. Where would I need to apply the grease??

You would apply the grease to the back of the brake pads where they meet the caliper. Do not put the grease on the rotors or on the ceramic part of the brake pads!

brooks davis, no. However you need to make sure that your car is secure before jacking it up.

anne marie conrod, the 2015 SL model is going to be slightly different than what you see in this particular video, but all of the basics will be the same. If you feel pretty confident about what you have seen here than you will be fine . Things may just look slightly different from what you saw displayed here.

No I did fix the boot when putting it back together. But if the boot was not fixed theoretically, if it were pinched yes it would probably tear.

if you buy all the parts, most places will turn the rotors for free.

The boot on that caliper looks nasty. I usually clean off any dirt or residue.

THIS guy is dangerous! NEVER in 30 years does anyone remove brake caliper to remove pads! Not necessary! Undo the bolts with the rubber boots on them 13 or 14 mm and the brake unit slips off change the pads! You don't need a 1/2 inch drive ratchet to accomplish this! HE MUST BE HIGH!
