Nice work, I appreciate the demo and the written descriptions on each step vs explanation with talking, this flows very well for comprehension. Also, as I am a EV technician myself I have to point out that the High Voltage disconnect should always be removed/unplugged prior to unplugging ANY orange connectors; this is for technician safety, and would make a great disclaimer. (On this car, the HV disconnect is located under the removable tray under the center console/armrest). 👌🙌 Thanks for helping everyone to be more resourceful and saving all that doe! 💰

Why did you remove the wheel and fender liner? Once you remove the 4 screws and pull out the charge port. You can easily reach in through the opening to unplug it.

Thank you for this! There are lots of videos about this, but yours is the one that describes taking the wheel well liner off. That step may or may not be necessary for this job, but for what I have to do, it seems to absolutely be necessary: I broke the little nubbin on the latch that secures the door, so need to replace the actuator cable that runs from the solenoid to the latching mechanism (what you remove and dangle as you replace the charge port). You also show how to use the two jack points to jack up the car and then put it on a stand, which will be helpful when I want to rotate my own tires, one side at a time! Thanks a bunch for this!
@averageguy12618 ай бұрын
I have to do the same thing. Do we absolutely need to remove the tire?
@Tamarinera237 ай бұрын
@@averageguy1261 Yeah, you'll have to, or it's very much in your way. There's another video about the best way to jack up the car, since it's so low to the ground a lot of jacks won't fit underneath: you drive half way up some ramps, then jack up in one place, and put jack stands in another place. It's annoying, but doable. Good luck!
@Tamarinera237 ай бұрын
@@averageguy1261 It might be argued that to just remove the port, you don't. But the cable hooks into a mechanism just aft of the wheel, and that would be hard to get at by sticking your wrist through the charge port hole and down a foot.

You make it look so easy 🙂 I should have looked for your video a couple of years ago when my buddy's Volt charging port went out. I don't suppose you have a video for what to do when it says Engine Not Available? After years of driving it as just a regular gas powered car, it just died one day with that message.
@DonaldZiems Жыл бұрын
You've probably solved the issue by now, but for the next person to run across it: Mine had that issue, the intake manifold had failed and was causing the gas engine to do all sorts of Bad Things when cold. It's apparently a common issue on the 1.6L engine that Chevy put into the Volt.

Thanks for the DIY video, I plan to tackle this job myself on my Cadillac ELR this weekend if the part shows up. The part is hard to find right now, seems to be on national backorder but I was lucky to find a dealer in Arizona that had one in stock. In your case, was a faulty plug the reason for your Service High Voltage System message? I'm replacing my port because it isn't always the smoothest to plug into, probably worn a bit and I'm getting this message only after fully charging the battery to where it float charges. If I stop charging while it is tapering down to a trickle charge then I can avoid this error message most of the time. It's not a hard fault as I can clear the code and the ability to recharge again at the next plug-in. I have the loss of HV isolation fault, I believe is P0AA6, along with generic P1E00, and P1FFF isolation fault related to the battery coolant tank level, which is full. I still looking at whether the level sensor is replaceable ($25) or if I need to buy the whole tank ($90). Do you by chance know what codes your car is/was storing?
@Wrenchology2 жыл бұрын
Oh crap, I only had one code and it wad happening when I would plug into a higher voltage charger. I have had to add some coolant but I don't have any leaks yet hopefully lol and updating the calibration seemed to help as well. Good luck!

Not happy at all with your video's title using the horrible ambiguous word "change" when you meant "replace." The black titling is often obscured and not presented long enough to read. Suggest leaving the text "torque the lug nuts to 103 lbs" up for the entire time as simple blink of one's eyes would have missed that detail. Why show removal and torquing of all the lug nuts?
