Been mounting by hand for 30 years so I feel your pain. Use plastic knee pads and that will help you hold the bead closest to you in the rim valley. Your knees will thank you and you will be able to put much more force on the tire without hurting yourself. Use WD40 liberally on the bead before breaking them loose. Will help the bead break and the old tire will slip right off. Obviously don't do this if you plan on remounting the same tire or using the tire on another bike. For mounting use straight liquid dawn dishwash soap and apply it by hand liberally on both beads before mounting. Never muscle the tire on with the rotor side down, they will bend... especially the front wheel with dual rotors. I usually take the rotors off to avoid warping them. Finish the job by using a static wheel balancer so you aren't pulling them back off due to a wobble.

I used your ratchet strap method for mounting the rear tire on my F850GS.....brilliant!! I have struggled for years mounting rear tires by myself. This method makes it so easy. Thanks for the idea and the video!!

Thanks. I fought mounting them for years also. Then for some reason it just hit me. Lol. It really does work. I’m glad it helped.

Your ratchet strap trick is brilliant! I’ve struggled trying to lift the tire, keep the spacers in place and slide the disk into the caliper, all the while cursing the gods of motorcycle maintenance. I’m almost looking forward to my next tire change!

I hear you lol. I’ve done more than my share of cursing before I started using the strap. Makes all the difference. I don’t dread doing it anymore. Good luck.

Greetings from New York and Thanks Chad for a cool video. Yesterday, I changed the rear tire on my F800GS as I had two flats. Fixed the flats with the local tire shop and still leaks. Found there was a tube inside the tubuless tire with a broken valve stem and a cut. Bought the inner tube and tire and replaced using your technique. Went to install the wheel and could not get it in place being heavy, also the weather was very cold. Had to bring the wheel back to the apartment. Will use you technique with the ratchet. Regards

Oh man. Sorry to hear of your bad luck with the tires. Also sorry for replying late. Any cheap ratchet strap will work. When it’s lined up, it’ll go in easy. Just one click at a time and guide it into the brake caliper. Best of luck. Let me know how it goes.

Well, I'm impressed! Damn, I don't know how much they charge to do that at a tire shop, but I'm will'n to pay 'em what they ask--especially since I don't have a Brittany to lend a hand! Those are the tires I've had an eye on--soon as I wear out my OEMs I'm going spring for a set--that is, depending on YOUR review of them!

Lol!! Thanks Ray! I’m only giving my experiences. I’m no pro. The Motoz was my go to considering mileage and traction overall. I’m currently running Dunlop trailmax missions. I’ll let you know how they work out.

I went with the new Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires and they feel good the few times I've gone out but I really don't have anything to compare it too yet.

Cool. So far these have done well too. I’ve probably put a couple thousand miles on them since the video. Definitely better ride on road than the others. Thy did well in rocky stuff but haven’t really had them in mud or sand yet. I’ll let you know how they do.

Hey Alvaro! Good to hear from you again. Actually, I recently traded my bike to another that has the tpm system. And I’ve also changed tires since. I just did the same procedure. I was aware of the sensor, but I started breaking the tire down 6 inches from the valve stem. By the time I got around, the bead was broken before ever getting near. Mounting, I did the same. I pushed the tire on and paid attention to it it laying over the tpm. The rest was the same. Not a big deal. Hope it helps. Chad.
