Tips of the video : 1 - Your Body Is Your Instrument : Understand that your voice is created by your instrument, and your instrument is your body. 2 - Air Supports Your Voice : Breathing, air feeds our body, it actually sends the vibration the words or the song outwards. (relaxing the belly, relaxing our shoulders keeping our knees slightly unlocked when we're standing to speak or sing, we'll give you a bit more flexiblity and a bit more dynamics) 3 - Relaxation is Key : Maybe massage yourself, keep these areas around your neck, shoulders, the head relaxed (consider your body as an instrument which needs to be relaxed in order to function at its best) Tips : you can swing your arms not higher than your shoulders, keeping knees unlocked, and swing it down, you can do this 20 mins a day, breathe and relax your belly. 4 - Practice Dexterity : tongue twisters, or repeat : 10:05 or 10:11 in the video, they both great at getting you to use your mouth at different way. do it and try to think that you're talking to someone : give it some attitude ! 5 - Yawning : Yawning BUT keeping your mouth closed : by doing this you start training the muscle that are involved in the mouth, the soft palate, the voice box to become more limber and to have more dynamics. Bonus Tips - Stay Consistent : Listen 16:00 to 16:54 ! Like so others can note it if they want or Thanks you for your nices videos Mr.Darren McStay !

Hey Darren, old fan and recent comment-er here, You helped me out immensely about 10 days or so ago when you gave me advice justtt before my audition for a job-internship, I butchered it a little less thanks to you and they told me to come back for the advanced tests, Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Both for the awesome content and for the kindly responses You rock

Thank you, John. Very kind words. Auditions are terribly scary and sometimes sterile environments and it takes a whole new set of skills to get them right like with all else. Keep practising and best of luck with the next set of tests.

Minute 11:15 As a working actor myself, I LOVE this bit of advice!!! Practicing HOW you say something doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the words being used (or the lines written in a script), so you've given me an exercise to consider practicing that I'd never done before....speaking any old gibberish (but in this case, of course, the gibberish serves the dual purpose of practicing one's articulation), but speaking it with different verb intentions! Vielen Dank! :-)

I am a woman but I have a resonant, sort of sharp voice. I want to soften my voice and be more fluid for news reporting. I feel a tightness in my chest and feel constricted. I am not sure which series of your breathing exercises will be most beneficial. I am looking for a daily routine that will focus on this. When you say to breathe while doing some movement, I am not sure how deeply or lightly I should be breathing. Thank you for your wonderful videos!

Hello thank you for the advice. I always push my voice too low and find it often gets worn out. I seem to do a lot of vocal fry when I speak too. This vocal tension often causes my voice to break when speaking. Do you have advice for how to raise my voice and speak at my natural pitch? When I try and speak at what sounds like the ‘right’ pitch it feels so unnatural I can’t sustain it or talk normally. How do I make it so it feels natural to speak at my natural pitch?

I've been watching a lot of your videos and it has really helped. Sometimes when I'm stressed (I have a lot of anxiety) it seems that I have brain fog and my voice goes soft. I don't have a naturally deep voice. Do you know how and why this happens?
@vocabilities4 жыл бұрын
Stress causes tension. It might be a good idea to actually seek therapy or counselling to learn what creates this for you so you can then aim at eliminating it from your life.

Hey Darren ! I recently downloaded Yousician and tested my vocal range. At first, it said Ab4- Bb2 and then for the second and third time it said A2- A4. What does that mean ? I can't understand this language 😅
@vocabilities4 жыл бұрын
It means you're singing different notes each time I think the aim is to expand the range. Try doing your warm-up first and try again. How are you otherwise?
