Very informative and very helpful, just bought myself a new MTB bike with disk brakes my first one.

So on your brake centering video, i know most manufacturers say to loosen the bolts and squeeze the brake then tighten to center it. I've never seen this work on any bike that ive ever owned with disc brakes. Like you, I also have a sram guide brake system. What i found helpful to center the brakes was a freezer pop wrapper. You cut off a small section and cut one side and clean it out after uve eaten it or whatever and put it over the rotor, then spin your wheel slowly until the wrapper is in between the pads and the rotor or have ur caliper completely off and put ur caliper on over that so the pads are touching the wrapper but make sure it doeant bunch up then squeeze the brakes and tighten down the caliper and then simply spin the wheel slowly and pull the wrapper out and then ive found that you will eliminate rub and be centered unless ur rotor is bent. I havent found that it contaminated the rotor in any way as long as youve cleaned it out. But either way ive never known a bike to wear the pads evenly even if it is ceneterd properly. For me its a constant battle to center my front brake because everytime i have to take off my front wheel i have to remove my caliper (cannondale lefty supermax) unfortunately it weekens the bolts each time and they do snap. Luckily chain ring bolts fit though it takes a while for them to arrive because they are not readily available.

I am new to MTB. How do I select the correct size/brand pad for my bike? There are many different disk brake pads, none seem to be bike specific? Thanks
@sufix95423 жыл бұрын
Well depends what brake you have. look at the brake, if its shimano on it for exemple, then search that brand and then disk pad. Or if you are not sure try to get them out to see the shape. Dont touch the disk or the pads without gloves

Bike4Life If by bike parks you mean a downhill type track, then yes; all these guys on GMBN ever do is use enduro bikes on their bike park episodes.

#ASKGMBN On my enduro bike I have sintered brake pads. Really good but yesterday I had a ride in the wet and the only thing that happened was a super loud noise.. It actually brakes a little bit but i have to push really hard.. Why is this happening?
@patrikmuller1518 жыл бұрын
It is because sintered pads are not as good for wet riding as organic pads. Organic pads will be loud too (at least mine are) but you will be able to slow down much quicker.
@MicheleNardovideos8 жыл бұрын
do you know a material which isn't as loud? I live in a city and having such loud brakes makes me feel embarecced
@patrikmuller1518 жыл бұрын
I hate it too, but organic pads are the best and most quiet i think. You can look for pads from swiss stop and other companies. Just try asking in a mtb forum which are the best for you, maybe you can get good advice there.

What tire is that on your bike Neil?
@YTCAT0078 жыл бұрын
It is an E13 TRS "race" tyre...it's softer than the "plus" version. I would like to know what the guys think of it? #askgmbn
@nickrogers64418 жыл бұрын
I'm interested in it also.
@YTCAT0078 жыл бұрын
Nick Rogers I've been running a softer Race up front and harder Plus in the rear. It's like a cross between a Mary and HR2. That makes it a draggy on roads and climbs but grip is phenomenal (perfect for gravity) and almost as strong as full DH/Super gravity tyres despite only being 900gms a piece.
@nickrogers64418 жыл бұрын
Johnathan Barrett I run a hr 2 on the rear and a minion dhf up front. I'm always on the look out for any variations out there. I spent 80% riding up hill and 20% downhill so maybe not the best for me?
@YTCAT0078 жыл бұрын
Nick Rogers Balancing set up for climbing/descending is the age old dilemma. Seems like you have a pretty good combo already (and one I have used and would use again). As a relative reference I would say the E13 combo is a bit heavier duty (actual weight is only slightly more than DHR2/HR2) and more durable over abrasive rock (not that the HR2 isn't pretty good in this respect) and grip is also commensurately a chunk higher. I am going to try changing the rear to a DHR2 and HR2 to see if I can make faster. I was curious as to why the video has a bike with the softer Race tyre on the rear. I can only guess it's a very Downhill orientated set up. I would expect it to wear very fast on the rear.

I’m enjoying the bike so far kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

Elvis Bogos the pad would go in, but it wouldn’t go back, so when you put your rotor back, it will constantly rub and be a pain in the ass.
