Every time Larry Potterfield says "It's a Simple Task"... he means it's a "Simple Task" for a MASTER of his level, and those are few and far between. Love watching this MASTER at work.

Thanks Larry. I've been a model maker, engraver, and special order jeweler for 25+ years. I've done wood carvings and have been an amateur gunsmith for several years now too. I really appreciate your attention to detail. Projects like this are very labor intensive but in the end the quality of the finished product makes it all worth while. Your videos are great.

Today is the day I realize what it means when people have said all my life that "patience is a virtue". I would have never undertaken a task that took more than a weekend before this point in my life. Now that I am older (30's), and see time pass so quickly compared to what it used to, I see how powerful spending time gradually working can pay off. When I was younger time seemed to pass by so slowly, and a month long project was unimaginable. It all makes sense to me now. Fantastic stuff, I hope to do my own project like this one day.

I always loved a nicely checkered stock... he sold me on the kit. So, I'll see just how simple this is or isn't. I've got all the time in the world to master this skill & bluing is second nature already. :) It's a good job for veterans & all because many our applications do not make it into the prospect lists.

It’s nice to see someone who knows what he is doing. I also refinish many old guns. I don’t have a shop like Larry’s, but I hand polish the metal, fit stocks, and checker the wood. I have to send out the metal for blueing, as I don’t have the means to do it. I really get a kick out of these clowns on you tube who do “restorations” on old guns, who use cold blue, don’t recut the checkering, and don’t get the pits and dents out of the metal and wood. Calling them restorations is a joke and an insult to someone like Larry who really do it right.

If you do, and if you'll be making the tools, check the teeth profile carefully - V shape, the smaller the better. If you try angled teeth like on a saw, it will catch on the fibers too much and you might tear out the dimonds and ruin the work. Try it out on some scrap pieces of wood you will be using to fine tune the tools and get a grip of how much force is needed, it is kinda easy to f up.
