Hi! Thanks for this deep breath of sanity. All the excitement around ADAC, and the flood of info on new products and reviews has kindof created this weired feeling that me, an average sim racer, needs to buy new improved equipment just to maintain my average place competitively. I saw myself falling into the, "new gear will make me faster", trap. I decided to go a different route and opted for driving training. I'm getting better track times, with more confidence and newly developed racing skills. New kit could not provide the same improvement. My CSL DD and SimLab XP-1 pedals are really serviceable. Upgradeing the driver (me) is making a huge difference.

When I got into racing back in 1995-l/6, there wasn't a lot of choices. I seen a Thrustmaster Formula T1 on display at a computer store and bought it. By 2000, it developed a pull to one side and FFB become a thing, so I bought a Logitech Wingman Formula Force. FFB was awesome, but it felt like a cheap plastic toy compared to the heavy, a lot of metal, Thrustmaster. Then I took almost 20 years hiatus due to life, LOL. And when I wanted to get back into it 3-1/2 years ago, I got a used Thrustmaster Ferrari Wireless GT Cockpit 430 Scuderia Edition because it was a foldable, portable, wireless, all-in-one wheel/pedal setup that worked great with my (at the time) 8 year old gaming laptop and our 70" living room TV. But I missed FFB, and started researching what was new, and Fanatec was "the name" being thrown around. Just getting back into it, I didn't want to buy new, knowing that I wouldn't have a lot of time to devote to it, so I found a used CSL, but he sold the pedals. But he did have a used Thrustmaster T300RS GT (that he, as a tech electrician, changed the fan) with T3PA-Pro pedals which he had inverted (and I kept them that way, and I bought the pair for $300 CND. After hearing about a lot of Fanatec issues after, I was happy I went with a brand I previously had no issues with. (I sold the Logitech and the TM portable units 2 years AFO in a years sale, but my TM T1 from the mid 90s remains on my shelf.) Within 3 months of buying the T300, his and hers desks were added to my wife and my collector's room, chairs, a wheel stand new TH8A whiter, TSS handbrake, new gaming PC, triple monitors (one new, two hand-me-downs from our son), a used Logitech surround sound, a used Acer mixed reality VR headset for $50 CND. And yet, I still only get about 10 hours in every 3 to 4 months, if I am lucky!

Back in the say I didn’t have a good paying job but I still saved for my Playseat and Logitech wheel. Eventually I bought me a Xbox wheel too. Then I got a good paying job. I bit the bullet and did my research on my steering wheel. I decided to go with Fanatec and started to buy different wheels. 2 years later I have most of them and I ended up buying a real racer t8pro and better Sony Bravia tv. Now I just have my eyes in that new Porsche Vision Fanatec steering wheel.

I think people she be more open to buying used. A bunch of people that bought sim rigs during the pandemic are now selling them for very low amounts. I bought a full csl dd bundle for 250 used.

Great advice. And after doing this comparison for the SIM gear, you get to do it for the pc too. Which is way more confusing.

Great advice. I still am going to get a DD because the belt driven 8nm wheelbase isn’t cutting it anymore. And I really want the GSI FPE V2 😂

Don't let your wife start buying designer shoes and handbags ........ you will have all the money you need for a decent DD wheel and cockpit. You will definitely use your racing rig more than she will wear those shoes.

Research is vital. When my ancient Fanatec pedals developed an intermittent problem where the throttle would only go to about 80%, I bought the Cammus LC100s as a replacement. What a waste of money: Baseplate is useless, as it can't be used on the floor and won't attach to properly to my wheel stand base. Unbolting the pedals is no good as I only have enough slots for two pedals on my wheel stand and the connecting cable between throttle and brake is too short to just use those two and finally my feet only just reach the non adjustable and very tall pedal plates, which means I have to physically lift my whole foot from the baseplate in order to use the pedals, or shove a box in front of them to rest my heels on. Now theyLc100s are in a cupboard gathering dust and I've gone back to those 10 year old Fanatecs.

I bet that you will still be getting a ton of questions for answers that are in this video. such as what do you expect to get out of simracing and do you really need to buy it. more equipment doesnt make you necessarily fast and at the end of the day it needs to allow you to have fun (if thats what you are after)

I got a really nice Simetik rig which has served me well, but it's not a profile rig and I'm finding I want to add more stuff like button boxes etc. Do I really need to do those things? No. My budget is limited so it's having to spend the money where it makes the biggest impact on my performance - which is PC, and pedals/Wheel/Wheelbase.

I might just go with the cammus c5 ik its not future proof but i am a drifter and the tmx csn barely spin fast without me helping it
@jaredbellinger44662 ай бұрын
Think there is a C8 coming that was at the SIM expo, has a round rim more power and a few improvements by the looks of it. Might be good to hold on for that. Would be great for drifting , as c5 has what you need just annoying rim is d shape and would also have a little more power to play with.

I got a question, I've found amazing offer on fanatec csl dd, but it comes with square gt3 wheel only. is for example dirt rally 2 playable with it? I plan to play ac and acc mainly, but I may want to play rally games also

I play for fun and gaining irating on iracing so overall improving, what id need is an actual rig and some better pedals u think these are worth getting? Im doing fine with my g29 but its very inconsistent especially for driving fast cars like LMDHs

All you do is you listen to the popular sim race KZbinrs, let them tell you what is cool based on price point alone and buy your gear because it is not “entry level” direct drive but 10+ nm

What’s the best wheelbase and wheel for around £/$/€1000-1200? Currently considering La Prima + La Prima hub (with one rim) or Alpha Mini + GT Neo. Worth spending more on the Forte or Alpha or something else? Coming from an ancient T500 RS, so anything DD will be a significant upgrade, but happy to skip the bottom end DD, e.g. budget Moza. Max budget is 1500. Thanks.

I prefer the Alpha Mini in this case, I have a Alpha 15 NM and its just incredible, im dont think im going to ever change my base. Im not really a fan of Asetek Design of their products.
@maximravinet99502 ай бұрын
I tried the alpha, alpha mini, la prima and forte back to back and honestly, they all do a really good job. I'd say go for the alpha or forte depending on the wheel and accessories you like best, as buying the bigger one will avoid a lot of buyers remorse when you eventually think you should have gotten the big one. I've found a great deal on a la prima so I went with that one but your budget can most likely fit an alpha and a gt neo without too much trouble
@doifeellucky2 ай бұрын
@@maximravinet9950 Thanks. Yes buyers remorse is my concern. Ultimately whatever I get I’ll probably use for at least 10 years, unless some groundbreaking new technology comes on the market, so I’ll probably just get something 15+ NM.

Get upgrades that are going to increase immersion. I'd rather be the slowest driver in VR on a nice rig with maybe even motion, than the fastest playing on single screen and controller. For budget it's personal, but if you are serious about simracing and you really enjoy it, set yourself some saving goals so you'll have something to chase and something to look forward to!
