CNC sump cleaning and new coolant for the Haas VM3. Ed from QualiChem is here today to "muck the sump." We were in for a bit of a surprise when we removed the cover and saw the color of our old coolant...
The Chip Trapper and RO water from our mobile IBC tote made it easier on us but you don't need anything fancy to get the job done. We'll remove the old coolant, circulate cleaner, remove the cleaner, and rinse with a 1% mix coolant and water before fully recharging the machine. Ed is extremely knowledgeable and has great tips for keeping CNC coolant and machines at their best.

Man. It’s so nice to watch other people clean tanks. Started at a new job this year as an CNC machinist “apprentice” and in the first 2 weeks I cleaned 5 Mazak tanks. Not really a bad job. Just a super dirty job.

He put that tramp oil collector on a while back and it performed great. We ran the CNC machines hard for 16 to 24 hours a day so it has a lot of oils and grease in it. Cleaned the tank every 2 months and it was always a slimy shoveling mess - even with a large vacuum truck.

Funny I have spent the last 2 nights cleaning and scraping the goop in the sump of the big Monarch. Even after 3 flushes and a bunch of wire brush action it still looks like muddy slimy water. 1/2" of grease and coolant residue over an 18ft lathe is a LOT of dirt to clean up. I so wish my sump had been as clean as yours!!

@xenonram
@xenonram 4 жыл бұрын
If you haven't been using a multiplier, you've been doing it wrong, or the multiplier is 1 and no multiplication is required. Read the bucket the coolant comes in. Or look on the coolant company's website.

Every coolant is a little different. It depends on the formulation. Your supplier should tell you when the conversion isn’t 1, otherwise you will be prone to wasting concentrate by running too rich.

I've worked at places over the years where they set aside 1 day every 4 to 6 months to have the machine operators do this exactly. Nowadays I'm seeing this going to maintenance and guess what....? IT'S NOT GETTING DONE! 2 to 5 years to schedule a PM? Make sure to take pictures of the skin rashes after every incident of exposure when it gets bad.

We struggle at our shop machining copper semiconductors because we can’t change or add anything to our cool based on SOP procedures required by the customer. Meaning we can’t use any cleaners or anti bacterial additives, Doesn’t make sense some higher ups that have no idea thinks it will ruin the part. Our cleaning process after the part is done would stop that but oh well🤦‍♂️

First you pull the cover off and inspect the coolant. Then you find the FNG and tell him to clean the sump and put in the coolant. Then you go to the breakroom and get a cup of coffee. Come back, stare over FNG's shoulder, grunt semi approvingly, and go sit down until he's done.
@xenonram
@xenonram 4 жыл бұрын
That's fine when they're not your machines. Trusting a FNG to clean a machine, that costs hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars, isn't the way to go when they're your machines.

Your coolant is dirty until you have to cut coolant cheese out of your tank. I cleaned a mori vertical mill that hadn't had a coolant change in close to 10 years, not my fault I had taken over the machine and job/position from another guy. I literally had a black, brown and creamy white build up 4 inches think in the corner of the tank. It didn't have a nasty odor, but the consistency of it was disturbing. I swear I could see it moving and pulsating on it's own. I had to shovel it out of the tank.

Seems rather excessive and very expensive when u factor in all the hazmat disposal cost i just suck out the coolant and rinse with water / remove chips and i only have to do that about every year and a half or so i highly recommend using oil skimmers and an air bubbler to extend coolant life

Like the channel, content and smart guy John... I just can’t take the title for this cleaning guy... Sales Engineer. Millions of people bust their asses to get their Engineering degree from a highly respected institutions with well accredited programs..... On the other hand, in some company somewhere, the company’s logo changes or for some other dumb reason, new business cards are to be ordered. Some deepshit decides he/she wants “Engineer” at the end of his/her. OK... if this is how it’s gonna be, then I title myself “The God of Sales Engineers” and I demand daily human sacrifice from my subjects... If not done as I commanded, I will rain down some ill-shit upon thee. The correct itle is “Sales Person”... Use it...

Rolltech Innovation manufactures machine coolant saver. Serious threats to productivity and health are bacteria and fungi which are commonly found in industrial coolants. This coolant bacteria filter has some advantageous features include: last a life time, with guarantee of extended life of coolant with bacteria filter - no consumables, no electricity, no chemical dosing, etc. It is a one time investment, ROI within 4-6 Months, Saves on input of fresh oil and disposal cost like etp treatment, or giving it to authorised recycler. These mineral oil based coolant are prone to generation of bacteria which produces foul odour, often from hydrogen sulfide [rotten egg smell]. Rolltech Innovation "Aqualogic" filter is an innovative and economical method of continuously controlling these micro organisms and the odour they generate. "Aqualogic" bacteria coolant filter consists of series of high-purity multi-metal fibres cased within a stainless steel tube. the dissimilar ions in the multimetal alloy bed undergo a natural electrochemical reaction, also known as an oxidation-reduction reaction.
