This was great! I've been afraid to do any work on glass and, to see how easy it is, I'll be doing this now. Although you are probably disappointed with the Corvette glass, I'm actually glad to see what can happen. Your experience with this and letting us know of the possible pitfalls with the thinner glass is priceless!

Thanks! Yes it sucks a little but I have bought a few of these kits for parts because of this. I actually bought 3 of that 87 Corvette kit but only paid $9. Each from a local friend/seller! So hopefully this video surpasses 10k views and that will pay for them!

I use basically the same process. I use 'Meguiar's Plastx'. I've also wet sanded a windshield w/ 7000 grit that was very scratched, then started the 'polishing' steps. It saved that windshield. It was a vintage '69 Corvair Monza kit.

Thanks. I think I’ll be doing that on a more damaged one.

I was thinking the same thing, about sanding it down then polishing it. Or maybe clearing it then polishing. Kinda like on car headlights.

Thanks for posting your video, Raoul. I will be using your polishing technique as I recently purchased off ebay a Monogram '78 Pontiac Trans AM and the front windshield has some minor surface scratches or scuffs on it.

Excellent tutorial!!! For the one that developed the checking - would a dip in future solve that? I’ve had some really bad windshields in some kits and sanding and a dip in future and they look great!

I don’t know as it is inside the glass but may try it.

Have you ever tried using the NOVUS system with#3 heavy scratch remover, #2 fine scratch remover and #1 plastic clean & shine.
@TheMuscleCarModeler Жыл бұрын
Actually no. This is what I have been doing for a long time. I did buy the Tamiya polishing compounds and tried them.

How difficult would it be to make molds from the glass and cast new clear ones?
@TheMuscleCarModeler Жыл бұрын
I understand from a few casters that clear parts are difficult to do. Resin is slow curing and hard to get without bubbles. Mold has to be flawless as you really can’t sand it easily.

Ive seen people dip their windshields in future floor polish to get them shiny.Have you ever tried it?
@richg4051 Жыл бұрын
I have tried it before and it worked a lot better the I tought it would. to be honest it looked brand new, but I might of just got lucky to.
@TheMuscleCarModeler Жыл бұрын
I have heard that too but have not tried it!
@JK_Chapman Жыл бұрын
i've occasionally used Future for window dipping.. the other benefit is adding a tint to the Future such as the color tints that you might add to clear resin.. a little goes a long way.. and if you're going for a subtle greenish blue factory tint it works really well to give a more uniform result than airbrushing it on.. just give it plenty of time to dry/cure before handling

I have fogged up my clear plastic rear window on my revell 1985 Camaro as I was going to tint it but then decided not too and used white spirit to clean the tamiya smoke realizes it was water based not oil base now it's fogged up.....

This is only for light scratches. You may have to get more aggressive and smooth it out.
