Oh yes it will help prolong the life of your blades. Imagine all the gunk in there that you end up running over with your shiny rotary blades...shocking!!!

I've never thought of cleaning my cutting mat! It doesn't get used very often as I can't get on with rotary cutters but I am sure it must have picked up some dirt along the way. Thanks for showing us how.

I had no idea! Yikes, I was using a Magic Eraser & thought that was good enough. Now I know that type of sponge will lift. off (erase!) the measurement markings and ruin my mat. Thank you SO much for a really informative tutorial!

Ohmy. Today I learned... A LOT. Thank you for the great video. Hypothetically speaking..... If anyone WOULD have glue stuck in the mat, do you have any suggestions on how to remove it the best way possible? "A friend of mine" used Denatured alcohol to remove it, but it left the surface feeling like the paper after some aggressive erasing.

I think the frequency would depend on how much you use it. I use mine nearly every day, and I intend to soak it once every few months of so. unless is appears to need more attention. brushing in between would be helpful as well.

Ok this is awesome but my mat is huge and I can not put it in bathtub so how can I do the cleaning as it’s on the table? Also it the grid is under the mat can you use the magic eraser?

Ahhh, I see. For this, I would consider finding a shallow basin that would fit at least half the mat...then rotate the mat through the bin so as to soak the whole thing. You could also place it onto several towels and maybe sponge a solution of water, vinegar, and soap onto it...then spray rinse and dry with new towels. (This could get messy.)

Ha! I doubt you wanna hang out in my bathroom with my cats LOL BUT!!!! You can also do this outside in a plastic basin, taking care to rotate the mat so all of it gets soaked evenly ;-)

I just wipe mine down (on the cutting table) with a damp washcloth when needed. The terrycloth texture of the washcloth grabs stuck fibers, and water is usually enough to clean the surface.
