Just discovered your channel and subbed! I would love to see a bit of your typical recording workflow order. Do you lay down drums, bass or guitar first when writing in odd time signatures? How do you record time signatures changes in your daw? One other video idea would be your take on how to count (hear/feel) non-typical time sigs. Love your content!

@@digital360 thank you and welcome! I do have a couple of videos that touch on the recording process. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4qnfoOYra2rnNksi=bYIvszg5Vaa6kn0D A lesson on how to feel odd time signatures is something I’ve thought about as well.

At 3:20, you use Aeolian b5. I have a sort of silly question. This mode is also described as Locrian natural 2. My silly question is: what is the difference between the locrian and the aeolian viewpoint? I guess in aeolian, you would put some more emphasis on the minor 3 to drive the minor feeling home?
@TheProgSchool Жыл бұрын
I went with Aeolian as that's the much more commonly used mode. Locrian is fairly rare in actually use. But you could definitely go with either.
@tonekilltech11 ай бұрын
It's a reasonable question. Locrian natural 2, Locrian #2, Locrian 2, Aeolian b5, or semi Locrian are all just different ways of referring to the sixth mode of the melodic minor scale in the context of the more familiar modes of the major scale. The naming convention shouldn't change the approach to playing it though.
@SamBrockmann5 ай бұрын
The actual difference is **context**. Just like why a lot of chords have different names, because those chords can have different names in certain contexts.

What do you think of the 'Have a Blast' break riff from Periphery? It seems to me that part of what makes it so impactful is that the harmonic rhythm is kind of varied; they don't just change chords every bar, or every other bar.

@@jaredwilliams1031 that’s a really cool riff, definitely has some interesting note choices and an unusual harmonic rhythm

Which processor,amp and drum software etc should we own to play progressive metal ???? Pls suggest....
@TheProgSchool8 ай бұрын
There are a lot of good options. Any modern processor will work well, Kemper, Axe Fx, Helix etc. or any Neural DSP plugin. For amps, mesa boogie, 5150, Engl, Friedman, almost any good high gain amp will do. For drums I use Getgood drums, they have a lot of options. But superior drummer is great as well. Even stock plugins and amps can get you by in a pinch, no shortage of good gear out there!

@TheProgSchool8 ай бұрын
@@Kaisiilerite Strats are a great all around guitar, but probably not my first choice for prog. You can't go wrong with an Ernie Ball JP or Majesty. Any sort of super Strat, Ibanez, Jackson etc. would work well. That or something more modern like a Strandberg or Kiesel.
