How to Connect into the Master Test Socket

In this video Paul will be showing you how to locate and connect into your master test socket for your phone line.
As with all of these check its a good idea to have a pad and paper to hand to make notes of any steps you complete should you need to refer back to them later.

If you have the BT master socket 5C with the filtered faceplate (the dual sockets @ 2:32) - you won't be able to pop the DSL cable directly into the test socket. Once the face plate is off attach the 'ADSL micro filter' which came with your router, into the test socket, then your DSL cable. You won't have needed this part previously as the faceplate was already filtered

But you don't say what we are supposed to do once the cover is off! Incidentally ours doesn't quite match any of those.

Mines a MK4. Like the last one but right in the corner up against the wall so I can't squeeze the clips to get the face off.

Hi Laura, If your doesn't look like one of these and you are in an older property it is likely yours looks like an "LJU" socket. If this is the case then you will not have a test socket. If you are connecting up your service for the first time or looking to complete diagnostics, you will need to locate the socket nearest to where the phoneline comes into your property. Thanks. Paul
