Absolutely brilliant tutorial. I've just completed this job in 1hr at home with no issues and no prior experience. Purchased all parts used in the video from Toolstation at a total cost of £41. My advice would be to WD-40 all bolts the day before you do the job as mine were very tight. Also buy a Close Couple Kit as this contains a new plate, bolts washers and doughnut. I finally managed to convert my en-suite toilet , it was nerve wracking and needed heavy use of a hacksaw and one emergency trip to B&Q for a large washer, however it’s done and no leaks.thank you for the calm presentation.

dual flush toilets were in vented in australia along with the aeroplane escape slides, wifi, the notepad, meat pie. ect

If i supplied the parts how much would i be looking at for this job including the toilet pipe and associated seals etc as it isnt closed couple. I'm in derbyshire east midlands if that makes a difference

I though with the new flush system overflow is built in, so the old overflow pipe is redundant could not have block the hole?

In my experience the screws in the back of the cistern are always rusted and either loose or impossible to remove. The butterfly nuts are always rusted onto the bolts, the coupling plate has always virtually rusted away, the doughnut washer is always clagged up with gunge and has to be replaced (with a new one that's too small and water leaks over the floor at the first flush), the inlet valve is always impossible to reconnect because the pipe that comes out of the wall is always too short so I always put in a flexible hose with an insolation valve. And it always takes me about four hours to do.

Hi, i have to change the flush valve in my toilet, its the old style one with the membrane, i was wondering, its a handle flush at the moment, could you retro fit a push button flush where the handle flush usually is?

What about the old overflow pipe that you just left in? If the cistern fills to the top, it will leak out all over the floor. Isn’t there some kind of bung you should have put in to that old overflow hole?

I fitted one of these to a cistern tank where the lid over hangs the tank. When pushing the lever up, it hit the lid so limiting the up ward movement of the lever. Ended up fitted a Thomas Dudley dual flush siphon. 😣

Hi and many thanks for this great procedure ... but with regards to fitting the front handle.... you do not mention the size diameter of the front cistern hole either ins or mm ...on which you are fitting ... My cistern has a 20 mm diameter front lever hole which I have measured..so its small by modern standards,,,....can you confirm if the lever handle shaft would fit for me indicating the diameter and ts shape round /square. I do not want to drill ..diamond bit to enlarge etc .. its the only thing stopping me at the mo .. Thanks

Hi Albert. The threaded lever shank is 3/8" diameter and will fit fine through your 20mm hole. The lever end of it is encircled by a soft rubber grommet that is about 23mm in diameter. When fitting the lever, you apply some pressure to squeeze the grommet tight against the hole and then tighten the plastic retaining nut on the inside (this has a left-hand thread).

Thanks Hamish you are a top guy...Fluidmaster would do better if they produced measurement specs etc so I ended up taking my old Royal Venton syphon out ..aged I should say .....been in I suspect before me and I have lived here since 1978..... replacing a.. rubbery type diaphragm within .... with a plastic one ...cut from a students A4 transparant folder . .. hey ho ... I will see how it takes the strain so to speak seems to works fine ......maybe later a handle flush/ side entry valve for me ...all as per your excellent info many thanks again.

Hi why does the water look a lot deeper in the top of my toilet it is a two way system I noticed a pipe was facing the floor earlier but the problem is the water is leaking down into the kitchen lights and I'm not sure what to do?

No, you have to remove the old handle. The new handle is an integral part of the new flush valve.

This dual conversion won't work with newer design bowls that fills to higher water levels than this conventional bowl. With a half flush, the water will just swirl and swirl but never flush down

It would only save you money if you're on water metre and also are useless they break down every year 1 .2 years I have changed so many nothing like the old system is last 20 to 30 years

These flush lever cable syphons are awful! avoid like the plauge. If the customer wants a lever rather than a push button syphon then just fit a dudley turbo. Saves all the fucking about with these syphons. Ive had two syphons fail on one job because the cable box kept popping off the lever mechanism whenever you go to do a full or half flush. Short answer get a dudley turbo!!!

Maybe I am the only one that is totally disgusted with the dual flush system. Whoever invented this should get flushed along with this stupid system. It's the actual definite feeling of e couple sandwiches short of a picnic. It's good intention never really fulfilled anything, first It doesn't save water because you have to flush twice, it operates in an oversize tank that barely fillls half of it, Then the stupid dual flush feature that bares the name isn't any different whether you flush single or dual its the same amount of water goes down go see for yourself. It's a new system sure! You have got to be a moron to actually convert just to have this. It's pathetic.
