Huh! How ingenious is that. The K.I.S.S. Principle very well applied!

Kinda crazy how much the commercial releases are, after watching some videos I figured this would be pretty easy to make. Will definitely try this next season, thank you!

I watched one of your recent how too videos on using bobber stops to adjust slider weight on main line giving dodger action for Kokanee. Excellent idea.

Nice tutorial, I'm going to convert my flashers. The only thing I would do differently is to use a a crimping tool rather than pliers. Improper crimping can result in damaging the line or causing it to slip. Also, as insurance against pulling out, before crimping pull out a little extra and melt a blob on the end then pull it down against the sleeve and crimp.

That was a fantastic presentation Duane. I will be converting my flashers over to this method. Thanks a bunch!

Glad you liked it Keith... It really works well. The last 12 fish that we have hooked, all popped the flasher and we have landed all 12. I think it makes a difference. Do me a favor, spread and share our content, there is much more to come. Thanks for the support..

Great release DIY option. I did the first released DIY with the red kriplure pins. This was before any commercial releases were available. It did work but doesn't always release. This is a lot more dependable to release when a fish hooks up.

Thanks a lot. I made up three today and look forward to trying em out!

This prevents spoons from spinning because the line is tied after the swivel. Should work fine on naked hoochies but if there’s a herring strip causing it to spin this can cause line twist.

Perfectly and clearly explained. Looks like a great idea. I'll try some various chainsaw gas line and drip line that I already have and I've got some Kevlar braided 600lb kite line that should work. Just need to get some ferrules.

I considered doing a Google search to see if I could just buy a good release for 360 Flashers. All expensive. I selected four of one and by the time they added shipping $50. So I'm going to try making these. I have been doing the red pin with a drilled hole on end of flasher. Doesn't always release fish has to pull to side I think if not stays connected. At least how I have been doing them. If I attached the pin similar to your method the fish would force the pin out every time if it was attached a swivel.

Yes, 100% it does nothing to affect the rotation..

This likely has been asked already. Why not use Crimping pliers instead? I did some of this and the crimping tool did a great job. Really like your system. So the one item you didn't mention at the beginning is the Clip to attach the Size 3 barrel swivel to. I was going to buy GDF releases but they are just under $15 each. As much or more than the 11" Flasher I want to use them on. I already have the Drip Irrigation tubing. I have also noticed that this 1/4" tubing some is really dense and not very soft hard to connect to connections. I try to find the softer 1/4" tubing.

Awesome how-to Duane! I will be doing this to all my flashers. Will 1/4" surgical tubing work for the rubber part or just the vinyl tubing?
@FishHuntNorthwest5 жыл бұрын
The 1/4 " tubing may work, I haven't used it. I like the firmness of the water tubing. The important thing is to find a match between tubing and swivel size. 😉

Making them now. Using 5 lb mono loop as break away at back of flasher Vs. the sleeve/swivel set up. I measured release tension of those GDF flasher releases they all release at between around 4 & 5 lbs of pressure - they are great but bulky so in the interest of slimming down the entire set up (& making it more stealthy) I just tie a small loop of mono between front of rear leader & rear of flasher with a double overhand knot (breaks easily) - less bulk less cost more stealthy - used my fish scale to measure breaking point - same as my GDF releases (around 4 or 5 lbs of pressure). Followed your same connection points just eliminated the sleeve that the rear swivel sits in. Thx.
@FishHuntNorthwest3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like another great way to do it. Nice job Jim..
@jimmascaro24563 жыл бұрын
Scratch that. Now I use those paper coated wire twist ties you find on bread bags. Dollar store for a big pack of them. Just twist them (same connection point) 6 or 7 times & trim tabs. Easier & just a little stronger. Saw a video where 1 guy uses the really thin guage plastic coated phone wire - same idea.

solid video my man , i have the size of the barrel swivels & the tubing , u didn't say the size of the double connector sleeves , would be grateful for that info so i don't buy the wrong size. Thanks my man
@FishHuntNorthwest3 жыл бұрын
Depending on if you find and purchase 200 lb. Mono or 180 lb. the size of the line can be .065 or .075. Look for double connectors that match the diameter of line you find. Then you can't go wrong ;-)

Thanks

Will this work with spin doctor type flashers
@FishHuntNorthwest3 жыл бұрын
I don't see why it wouldn't. The 10 in. model should have enough pull on it, that when a fish grabs it, it would release. You won't know until you try one. I have not converted this type of flasher..

Now that I have more than a couple of years of fishing 360's and a couple hundred fish of data points, I'll say 2 things: 1). Breakaways do not matter. What matters more is keeping CONSTANT pressure on the 360 by reeling. Never stop reeling when fishing a 360. Keep a solid bend in your rod at all times. 2). You get a ton of strikes and misses on 360's. You have to pull up and reset your breakaways on a missed strike. That takes you out of the water and stops you from fishing on a hot bite.
