General Tso is my favorite chinese dish. The spicy, the SLIGHT sweet, the beautiful red sauce, and those peppers! Man, I could go for some general tso, now. 😋😋😋
@KnightofSnowdonia5 жыл бұрын
I made this yesterday and it turned out perfect. One thing i would suggest to anyone making it is to start with about 15g of sugar and build up the sweetness cause 50g of sugar was TOO much as well as 1/4 cup of honey. Besides all that just follow it step by step and you will be fine. Great recipe. Before i forget, some veg wouldn't go amiss, i think next time i would put some peppers and onions. Enjoy.

Ahhhh. I'm currently basking in the afterglow of one of the finest meals I have ever cooked. Outstanding...much better than all but the very finest Chinese restaurants have served me, and I have eaten a lot of General Tso's chicken over the years. Thank you so much Master Chef Zhang. This is now my go to recipe for making it at home, as it tops all the other home recipes I have tried. I made it almost exactly as you demonstrated. I reduced the honey by half, as I feared it might be a little too sweet for my palate. I also did not add the chilis to the sauce, but instead added them with the garlic and stir fried them a bit. Next time I might try adding a bit of sesame oil to the sauce, but I hate to mess with perfection.
@PoeLemic4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for letting the rest of us know how good it is. I plan to make this sometime soon. We can't eat out anymore with the Pandemic, so cooking at home -- is how we live now.
@chapcat544 жыл бұрын
@@PoeLemic You are most welcome. As Chef Zhang stated in the video, and I too have always believed it is so, the key to good General Tso's chicken is the flavor of the sauce. In my opinion, far too many restaurants, and especially the all you can eat buffets, serve the dish with a ketchup based sauce that just does not taste as good. The oyster sauce and honey base is just far superior. Also, make sure your chicken chunks are not too small. Otherwise, to get the crispiness, your chicken will end up dry and leathery. Another fault often found in the lesser restaurants. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do.

One cannot find General Tso's Chicken in China because it is a dish invented in the US by Chinese chefs, however this dish follows 100% Chinese way of cooking, so it is a pure Chinese dish, just like in China new dishes are invented frequently to adapt to customers' taste.

Best General tso’s chicken I’ve ever seen, my dad hates oyster sauce so I use hoisin which is a good substitute and I use a tiny bit of dark soy sauce and minced ginger and I switch water with chicken broth. Also dried chilies don’t exist where I live so I use chili flake

As a kid, I only ever ordered pepper steak when my family got Chinese. Then one time I tried General Taos chicken because I like spicy and heneral taos is spicy. I only got that for about 30 years. Then I tried shrimp mei fun (with the skinny noodles) because I like both shrimp and noodles and so for the last 10 years or so I've only been getting that. Cool story, huh?
