An excellent Video, well done and imformative. I love the old Landrovers, they were so easy and simple unlike 4x4's today.

Many thanks bedmaker, really glad to hear you enjoyed the vid. They are such a simple bit of kit, and when i come across people traveling in the modern 4x4's and we start chatting they are amazing at the amount of tricks you can use on them and just how simlar they are. Kind regards, Geoff

Some years ago, I hand cranked my 109 Series 3, 1984, 2.25 petrol, 24 V FFR, ex-mod ( British Rheinarmy, Germany) just for fun. Easy start to my surprise. Great vid, Geoff. Regards Heinz

Hand cranked a 63 2A that had been sitting for years to run, amazing. Easy on 7:1 compression, a bit harder on my S3 with 9:1, never tried to crank a Rover V8 tho!

Bought my 88 Series lll near new in 1974 and used to use my dual battery handle regularly although I haven’t needed to for many many years - until yesterday, the motor turned over first go. The crank handle sure is a handy back up battery or starter motor.

Thanks for your video! I also own a Citroen ID19 with that crank handle. But Recently, I tried for the first time I could not turn fast enough or some reason I could not start. Watching your video, I now I know why... I did not pump the fuel before start. You have made it look so easy but I am bit scared. Thanks for the video!

Hi Kabaotto. Priming the lines makes all the differences along with making sure the ignition timing is spot on, otherwise it can be along of work for not much success. All the best. Kind regards, Geoff

Hi Geoff that is a really good tip to know thanks. I have a question about the dwell angle on the points.I had an old ford pickup that was points and If I set the points at .017 the dwell was just about right on so my question is what is the best setting for the 2.25 L engine to set the points at my book says betqween .014 and .016 I think I have mine set right now to .015. thamks for your videos I enjoy them they are good and practical.

Make sure you have someone sitting in the cab to pull the handbrake up, I wonder if that would work reverse gear plugs out and hand crank.

Cheers for another interesting video. Now do the 2¼ diesel😜 I've tried handcranking my Dad's 2¼ diesel when working on it and it's fookin stout💪🏻 Especially with no decomp lever. I think in your situation I would try the jack the rear wheel method like the video you done awhile back.

@@rchad129 Years ago I've seen a video of a 4x4 started by jacking up and spinning the wheel. But I can't remember if it was on this channel or in a video with Roothy or who by and if the 4wd was petrol or diesel. Either way it's a good technique to find wear in the driveline😉
