How to create a Dolby Atmos home theater with Sonos

@@sonos would you guys please send this feedback to the product team? I’ve been using left and right speakers grouped to my arc setup for some time now and the difference is night and day. The downside is that I can’t adjust the grouped speakers with my TV remote because it’s not an official part of the TV setup. As a loyal Sonos customer, I and many others would really appreciate this option to expand our Sonos systems to our liking.

I second this! Also read plenty other comments from people asking the same. Would be great if Sonos allows users to link as many speakers as they want to create a true dolby atmos setup like how atmos was intended to be.

@@MrDexterSr Can you explain you audio set up please, which speakers are you currently using as your front left and right?

Front drivers are disabled in Era300 when being used as rear surrounds, hence there is no need to point them towards the main listening place like shown in the video. Instead you are compromising the side firing speaker direction.

Thanks. Your videos always have the 300 surrounds angled in but other Sonos pictures have them facing forward towards the Arc to simulate a box, not a triangle. I've heard on Sonos community forums that the box worked better than the triangle setup. Just flagging you might be confusing folks.

I found front facing to be the best. In the triangle setup I found the rears too dominating

Hi there! Traditional stereo setups often have an ideal place to sit in a room for the best listening experience, but with Era 300, the sound is sent in all directions, so you'll experience rich detail no matter where you’re seated. When setting up surround sound for your home theater, be sure to place the speakers so the front grilles are facing toward the TV. Many in the Sonos community do prefer angling the speakers a bit towards the listener. We recommend testing out different configurations to see which setup is best for your space.

Thank you for the great video. I just got my Beam gen 2 yesterday and eagerly set up my surround. It was nice but the sound coming from the rear speakers (2 Sonos One) is less than what I expected. I almost couldn't tell if the. rear speakers are working unless I listen very closely to the rear speakers. Is that what surround sound should be? Anyway, the Beam gen 2 is more powerful than I expected, works great!

Try to change the surround settings in sonos app with complete range and add some balance (not too much) on the surround for TV and Music it should sound better

I have got the arc, sub gen 3 and twice the play 5. I have got one issue, there is an echo, how do I solve that issue ?

I’d like to add my voice to requests for enabling two additional front left and right speakers (eg era 300s?). Many of us have our TV in a space that does not have close walls either side for bouncing sound off. That and the fact that my ARC isn’t even as wide as my 75 inch TV mean that the spread at the front is minimal unless I sit way too close to be comfortable for viewing..

I have just bought 2 Sonos Era 300 to add to my Sonos Arc + Sub replacing 2 Play:3 as rears. I need some advice about the stands. How tall are the original Sonos stands for Era 300 from to base to base (ie excluding the speaker itself)? My couch + pillows are 83/84cm tall and the ear level is about 94cm from the floor. I am thinking whether I should go for the Sanus stands which are 82cm tall (+ speaker height) or the Sonos ones (not clear how tall but probably 96cm + speaker). Which one would be best?

Hi there! The Sonos Era 300 stands are 37.64 in (956 mm) tall. A couple of spacing considerations for placement of your Era 300 speakers: When Era 300 is placed next to a wall or on a shelf, leave at least 1" (2.5 cm) clearance in back and 8” (20.32 cm) on each side of the speaker. Additionally, when using Era 300 speakers as surrounds, leave at least 8" (20.32 cm) clearance around the sides of each speaker. Hope this information is helpful!

Hi, i have a Pioneer vsx-935 av receiver and am currently using it as a 5.1 surround system. Is it possible to exchange my two wired L&R back speakers with Sonos? And which of your Sonos devices would best fit this constellation? And do you have a video that shows how this is done?

By the way, my av receiver do support the use of Sonos, i just don´t know if i can add Sonos, as replacement for my wired back speakers.

I have a 7.2.4 setup, is their particular way the sub should be facing the listener? I have the light in front of the sub facing me.

Hi there! Sonos Sub is designed to provide optimal sound wherever you place it. It's designed to sit on the floor. You can place it in a corner, against the wall, behind, under, or next to any piece of furniture on any kind of floor surface. Just make sure to always make sure at least one side of the slot is free from obstruction. If you place it vertically against a wall, don’t block the front opening. If you place Sub horizontally on the floor, don’t put anything on top of it and be sure to leave at least 1" clearance along the top of Sub if placing under furniture. Era 300 does not connect to Sonos Boost and it drops surround sound time to time. It is frustrating !! Arc, Sub connects to Sonos Boost. I am not sure it is a technical issue which sonos has to figure out or Sonos Boost is outdated for Era 300 technology ??

When will you allow us to have a MOVE speaker as part of the Rear Surround? Too many modern homes have open plan living, but no way to run cables to a point behind the main listening position. By allowing the MOVE with it's battery and wireless setup to be a pair of rear surrounds, we can then experience better sound. I'd be happy to put them on charge at the end of a movie - but at the moment I have no options available to me. This would be sure to win SONOS many new customers.

I still can’t compute as to why you can’t add 2x Sonos Fives when using an Arc. Doesn’t being able to do this make perfect sense??

I have 2 Sonos fives as rears to my Arc - it works very well - but I’m replacing them with the era 300s for the greater spatial-ness for atmos movies - Fives sound amazing but they fire the sound directly outward - reducing the spatial quality of the sound - I’m keeping my fives for a stereo music setup some place in my home

Please, when sub gen 4 is released, make it more powerful. The gen 3 sounds fantastic but the sound and power hasn’t really seen a change since Gen 1 released in 2012. Following your release schedules for Sub, we might expect a Gen 4 in June 2024, that’s 12 years since Gen 1, hopefully it’s more powerful even if larger, you already offer the Sub mini for people who are space conscious.

@@brandonfrost9801 Yes i have, i would just like if after so many years and iterations if we got increased performance from the Sub rather than spending $800 over and over just so the newer subs can play nicely with newer speakers and Wifi signals.

Without true play on android sonos is not for me. I don't want to be forced to buy a apple device.

If you have an Android, you can borrow an iOS or iPadOS device from someone else to Trueplay your products. As long as your Sonos products stay in the same location, Trueplay only needs to be completed once per product. Learn more at: support.sonos.com/s/article/3222
