Finally, a video on how to think rather than what to think. Following a build order never felt nice to me because it was like somebody giving you all the exploration spoilers for a game like Elden ring.

Agreed, it's sad how literally every game gets reduced to a meta formula that everyone just blindly follows instead of everyone figuring it out for themselves. So much lost creativity.
@30Salmao2 ай бұрын
If you get META in the right way, you would discover that true META is to learn "why" X is META, "how" X keep winning, and from there you can extrapolate cool ideas with the hard work covered. Learning META is overcoming the learning curve fast in order to think corectly and get true wins (and not only wins vs weak players).
@Hooktail2 ай бұрын
@30Salmao Feel that this is what most people who complain about meta don't understand (unless a game TRULY is that shallow/linear/imbalanced). It's like inventing algebra on your own versus just reading an algebra textbook, no need to reinvent the wheel. Start at the "meta" and, if you are clever and skilled enough and the game has enough depth permitting, start inventing your own paths to victory.

It does not matter if Grubby is talking about video games, his words worth it's weight in gold. Once a person reach a certain understanding in his field of expertise, he can relate to other fields, understand them better and even learn from them to progress in his original field. That is why people study advice like that and successfully make a fortune when they can comprehend the general principles of struggle and evolve beyond. Tbf, Grubby should write a book with advice like that

Grubby, I watched you a lot in the 2000s and just got back into wc3 a couple weeks back after I rediscovered you. I just wanted to say, this is kind of erie, you put this video out right after I started beating insane computer regularly and just yesterday played my first ranked placement match. Its like you knew how bad I needed this video man lol... I feel like im swimming up hill trying to break back into a 50% wr in melee mode... This style of teaching content is SO HELPFUL FOR US!!! I know these videos might require a little more effort than normal but dude... THANK YOU SO MUCH for being our teacher. I know you'll probably not see this comment but just in case you do, from a life long fan, the love and support you give to the community is so wholesome and needed in these crazy times. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the amount of love you give the WC3 community, we'd be lost without you! -twostory

THIS is the kind of information I was searching for probably for years! It is only now that I will be able to have fun with the game knowing what I 'm doing instead of copying build orders and trying to figure out things! What would be helpful though is to design an infographic that lists all possible advantages, and anther infographic (like a poster) for the 24 heroes with bullet points underneath each hero for the possible advantages that this hero can bring forth to the plan.
@Random-c4f2 ай бұрын
Great video. I agree that you need to have a vision/idea of the end result to come up with a strategy. Knowing what you want to do focuses your brain on finding solutions and improves its output. Otherwise, you blindly jump from one thing to another and achieve nothing (unless you are very lucky). But of course, you need basic knowledge to begin with. So you gain some knowledge/skills, come up with an idea, find possible ways/solutions to achive it, test them and then repeat, repeat, repeat... And the great thing about this approach is that it could be applied to real life problems as well, not only games.

Really cool and insightful video! Although I don't play the game (only campaigns for fun and I have trouble beating them on hard from a certain point on) this is an eye opening video for since I stumbled upon you channels I rediscovered the game but I always wondered how is this really high lvl of play possible. I would be awesome if you made a tutorial series for all aspects of the game including for complete begginers like myself. I particularly struggle with the micromanagement which I feel is prerequisite to be on decent lvl before any of the higher advices could kick in for usefulness.

Do Random players, then, technically have the Advantage? Because the Random player will know the race matchup ahead of a scout (to plan their greed/agro/safety), where the opponent will be funneled into generic middle-of-the-road strategies out of ignorance. I love this video so far only 9 minutes in.
@maxbest86502 ай бұрын
Yes! They technically do have a minor advantage. While you can get around this from an earlier scout, this still frustrated me as a former SC2 player that had rigid builds for each race. After ~10,000 games I managed to develop a strategy around this: If you ask them "Mind sharing race?". They tell you correctly about 60%-70% of the time. If you ask them about their day or engage in a minor friendly conversation then ask "Mind sharing race?". They tell you correctly 75%-85% of the time, this ended up being high enough for me to just trust what they say and commit to a specific build without an early scout. I really should recored these statistic properly, this is just an estimate.

Does aggression/safety/greed also apply to chess and other strategy games? Where did you take this from?
@martinorell22 ай бұрын
I'd argue the answer is yes, but there are some important differences. Turn based games with perfect information means that you always see what the opponent is doing, so there is no scouting to see what strategy your opponent is going for and you have time to think during the game what the best response is. In chess I'd say you need to know your advantages in the position, rather than overall game plan. Play aggressive when ahead in development and opponent have weak king. Play safe and trade pieces when ahead in material, since you win the endgame. Play greedy by picking up material when you can. So yeah, grabbing pawns when you already are behind in development is a bad idea. Sacrificing pawns for activity when your opponents position is safe is a bad idea. Playing safe when behind in material is a bad idea. So the triangle sort of works, but we usually think in other terms, such as activity, king safety and material.

clearly the best strategy is to ignore all help the game and commenters are giving you and insist on doing things "your own way", and when it backfires, simple quit the game and claim it is for masochists and clearly that everyone else enjoys the obviously terrible game you just played. why stubbornly cling to make a "truly unique experience only for yourself" if you also want to share your experience with others by streaming it? im not saying let backseaters ruin your fun, but you ruined your own fun by doing the childish "well now i dont want to do it" thing when people give you advice when you're obviously struggling in sekiro.
