Tried this and then checked the comments when I was finished with the increases rounds… realized then it was gonna be an adult size lol my brother is having his third kid so I thought I’d make matching hats for each of his kids in different colors (and sizes since they’re all different ages!) so I started using a light baby pink and then sent him a photo when I finished saying “Well, I made the first prototype too big… I guess you’re gonna have to wear the baby pink one!” My nephew got a kick out of me making his big burly tattooed dad wear the baby pink bear hat hahaha I’m using a weight 4 yarn and a 3 mm hook right now and with tight tension it is coming out beautifully for the newborn! I’ll make the next two with two hook sizes bigger each for the 1 year old he already has and the 5 and a half year old. I’ll probably also add some more increase rounds for the 5 and a half year old. Thanks for the easy to follow video! My family is so excited to see them all in their baby bear hats together:)

Thank you for the cute and instructive video/pattern. Mine ended up very much looking like a boater rather than a beanie, so I came back to see why my ribbing turned out looking more like a brim. I see now that I made double crochet instead of single crochet for the ribbing 😅 it’s still a cute hat, though, and I am thinking of adding rabbit ears instead of bear ears. Next time I will pay better attention, but for now I’ll just live and learn 😊

if you are struggling with it being to big then start with less rows. for a 3.5 - 4 mm hook half it and start with 6 double crochet into loop instead of 12 and if your using a thicker yarn then start with 4 you do the rows in exactly the same order 😄❤️ i hope this helps

I'm using measurements to make the beanie. I was wondering if you could tell me the measurement from the crown to where the ribbing starts. I'm trying to use yarn I have on hand instead of buying yarn. I'm just not sure how long the beanie should be before I start the ribbing. The grand baby hasn't arrived so I don't have a head to try it on.

Thank you very much for your comment. I am glad to hear that you like the pattern and my tutorial. This pattern is very easy to adjust to the desired size, regardless of which yarn you are using. All you need is a tape measure. The average newborn's head measures 13 3/4 in (35 cm) When cricle has these measurements around, do not make more increases. Continue crocheting the rest of the hat until the hat has a height of approx. 5 in (12.7cm) Then the ribbed edge is made. Best of luck with your project😊❤

Hello, thank you for making such a lovely tutorial! I would like to use a light-weight cotton DK for this. I can’t find the weight of the yarn you’re using, is it DK? The yarn I have recommends a 4mm hook, but I use a 3mm on it for amogurumi and it works just fine, does this sound heavier or lighter than the yarn you used here? Or do you have measurements for how big yours came after a certain number of rows? Thank you!

For some reason when we start with 12 stitches and increase to 24, im putting 2 dc in each stich but i some how end up with like 32
@AdoreCreaCrochet15 күн бұрын
It sounds like there might be a little mix-up with your increases! When you're increasing from 12 to 24 stitches, you should be placing 2 double crochet (dc) stitches in each of the12 stitches to make 24. If you're ending up with 32 stitches, you might be accidentally increasing more stitches twice. Here’s a tip: double-check that you’re only placing 2 dc in each stitch, not more than that, and keep track of your stitch count as you go. You could also try using a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round to help keep track. Let me know if you'd like more guidance-you're doing great! 😊

Thank you for your feedback! I'm so glad to hear the body of your hat turned out beautifully. @AdoreCreaCrochet Жыл бұрын
Hi there😊. It is always very important to check whether the gauge matches the pattern, especially when making clothes and accessories for babies. However, you can easily adjust this pattern to suit your yarn. Step 1. Get a measurement chart online with head circumference on babies or measure the little one's head yourself if you can. Step 2. Unravel and crochet the round circle until it matches the desired head circumference. Measure with a tape measure around the circle. Step 3. Continue the other rounds without increases. Only make the number of rounds that is appropriate for the height of the hat. Best of luck with your project❤

You’re doing great! Working in back loop only with fluffy yarn can definitely be a challenge, but it sounds like you’re pushing through. Just take it one stitch at a time! You’ve got this! 💪✨

Why i did row 4 and it stared to curls its not straight like yours is it worng should i start over or is it okay? Please reply thanks😢
@AdoreCreaCrochet Жыл бұрын
I think it is possible that you have too many stitches in the fourth round. Otherwise, it should not curl, as long as you keep the same crochet tension/gauge. ❤

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but it turns out flat until the round of all 1-dc :( any ideas? I'm really following this step by step and it looks like a tablecloth, not a hat :( I'm a total beginner so it's obvious I'm making some mistake but I really think I'm following instructions closely :(

interesting - just started over with a different yarn and now it's fine haha. But seriously I have no idea what I might have done incorrectly the first time!

I'm sorry to hear that you're facing difficulties with your project. Don't worry-I'm here to help! When making a hat, the initial rounds should create a circular shape. If it's turning out flat, a few common issues could be at play. Let's troubleshoot: Stitch Count: Ensure that you are maintaining the correct stitch count in each round. Sometimes, unintentional increases or decreases can affect the shape. Increasing Rounds: Make sure you're placing the correct number of stitches in each increase space. Pattern Instructions: Review the pattern instructions. Make sure you're following each step carefully. Yarn and Hook Size: Ensure that you're using the recommended yarn weight and hook size for the pattern. Using a larger hook or thicker yarn can result in a looser fabric. Remember, everyone makes mistakes as a beginner, and it's all part of the learning process. 😊🧶

@@AdoreCreaCrochet thank you so much for such a detailed reply!! I'll make sure to recount the stitches in that "flat hat" (I still have it), I have a suspicion that I either messed up the stitch count or maybe I made the same row twice by accident. Really great tutorial by the way, thank you :)!

Mine was way too big What do you think i did wrong?
@AdoreCreaCrochet Жыл бұрын
Hi 🙂 There are a few common mistakes that might have contributed to the sizing issue. Here are some possibilities and suggestions for improvement: Gauge Issues: Check your gauge: Make sure you are using the correct yarn weight and hook size as specified in the pattern. If your stitches are too loose, it can result in a larger finished product. Tension Control: Pay attention to your tension: Consistent tension is crucial in crochet. If your tension varies throughout the project, it can lead to uneven sizing. Practice maintaining a consistent tension while crocheting. Pattern Accuracy: Review the pattern: Double-check that you followed the pattern instructions correctly, especially when it comes to stitch counts and increases or decreases. Small errors in counting or following the pattern can lead to sizing issues. Yarn Choice: Ensure the yarn weight is appropriate: If you substituted the yarn suggested in the pattern, make sure the new yarn has a similar weight and thickness. Using a bulkier yarn can result in a larger finished item. Measuring as You Go: Measure your work frequently: Periodically check the circumference and height of the hat as you crochet. This can help you catch sizing issues early on and make adjustments if needed. Adjusting the Pattern: Modify the pattern: If you are experienced in crochet, you can make adjustments to the pattern by decreasing the number of stitches or rows to achieve the desired size. Keep in mind that altering the pattern may require some trial and error. Blocking: Blocking: Some projects benefit from blocking, which can help shape and size the final piece. However, blocking might not be as effective for significant size corrections. Learning from the Mistake: Take notes for next time: If you identify the specific step where the sizing issue occurred, make a note for future projects. Learning from mistakes is a valuable part of improving your crochet skills. Remember, it's not uncommon for projects to require some adjustments, especially when you're learning. Analyzing what went wrong and making changes for the next project is part of the creative process. If you have specific details about the pattern and your process, I might be able to provide more targeted advice.

The beginning of this process I totally thought I was making the “bear ear” of the beanie until I realize she keeps going and going with the same pattern I’m like hold on this is a huge “bear” ear 😂 Come to find out it was the portion of the beanie that goes on the actual head not the ear

It's possible that the gauge of your crochet stitches is looser than in the pattern. Gauge refers to the number of stitches and rows per inch in your work, and it can be affected by factors such as the type of yarn, the size of your crochet hook, and your tension while crocheting. If your gauge is looser, your stitches will be bigger and your finished project will be larger. To fix this, you can try going down a hook size or adjusting your tension to make your stitches tighter. Another possibility is that you used a different weight of yarn, which could also affect the size of your finished project. Make sure you're using the same weight of yarn as specified in the pattern and check the yarn label for information on gauge and recommended hook size. I hope this all helped🙂

your instructions for the ears assumed your followers were experienced crocheters therefore were not very detailed,, you did not instruct to leave a long tail for sewing the ear to the hat and what to do with the second tail or which tail to use. no instructions on placement of the ear to the hat. I was very disappointed in this area of the tutorial.

My hat looks like an acorn. Please help...
@AdoreCreaCrochet Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to hear that your crochet hat didn't turn out as expected and looks like an acorn. Don't worry; mistakes happen to the best of us, and it's all part of the learning process in crochet. Here are a few steps you can take to improve your hat and make it look the way you want: Identify the Issue: Try to pinpoint what went wrong with your hat. Is it too small, too pointy, or not shaping correctly? Check the Pattern: Review the pattern for the hat. Make sure you followed the instructions accurately, including the stitch counts, increases, and decreases. Yarn and Hook Size: Ensure that you used the right yarn and hook size recommended in the pattern. Using a different yarn or hook size can significantly impact the final result. Gauge: Pay attention to your gauge, which is the number of stitches and rows per inch. If your gauge doesn't match the pattern's gauge, your hat's size and shape may be affected. Frogging: If your hat is seriously off, consider unraveling (frogging) your work back to a point where it was correct, and then re-start from there. Additional Rounds: You may need to add more rounds to shape your hat correctly. Follow the pattern's instructions for increasing or decreasing to achieve the desired shape. Blocking: Blocking can help reshape your crochet work. Wet the hat and then shape it to the desired form, pin it in place, and let it dry. Remember, in the world of crochet, even a project that doesn't go as planned can offer valuable learning experiences. Don't be discouraged. With a bit of adjustment and practice, you can turn your acorn hat into a beautiful finished project. Happy crocheting!🧶😊

@callis9283 were you able to figure out the issue? I’m in a similar situation where all appears correct with exception to the ribbing part being to big or almost like a bucket hat. I’m wondering if, when I’m attaching those rows to the hat if I need to be starting the slip stick over further than I am?
@CurranEmily19 ай бұрын
Figured it out and it turns out I was right and was attaching the ribbing with the slip stitches in the wrong two spots. I was using the spot right under the rib row thinking it was the first stitch but you actually need to go further to the left and do those next two stitches. Came out perfect and is faster too because you’re filling less stitches that way.
