I have a horrible time when the person teaching the tutorial is facing me. I did not know how to use a marker or how to tell where the second chain from the hook was or how to count stitches. Very clear instructions, love that they are written in the comments box but tried three different ways and different sizes and none gave me an adult sized hat.
@prettydarnadorable4 жыл бұрын
+teresa payton oh no I’m sorry to hear that did you check your count at every round? And you use the same size hooks correct? I think it may come down to tension in which case I would recommend doing an additional increase round because we’re already using a 6.5 mm hook. It may be the only way to get it large enough they should make the hat about an inch larger

For weeks, I have been looking for an easy hat to crochet for my dad who is currently going through chemo. After he woke up this morning to find his hair all over his pillow, I decided now was the time. This pattern is so easy. I started with the video - which btw you do a FANTASTIC job with doing the walk-through for newbies - but ended up following the written form instead. I am grateful you included it. Definitely a fan. I have a grandson on the way as well, and I don't believe I will have a problem tweaking this pattern to fit him. Thank you so much.

Excellent tutorial. I messed up so many times, I lost count. It was well over an hour before I figured it out and even so, I finished the hat in under 24 hours!!! My first official hat from a pattern!!! Previously I'd crocheted as a total amateur as I remembered my aunt teaching me when i was a kid and I'd sorta been doing it wrong and my work didn't have a very professional look so I decided to look up a proper pattern/tutorial. My work, for the first time, actually looks professional! And even though I had to rip it out 10+ times cursing myself every freakin' time, thanks for the tutorial!!!! (Part of my problem was probably using multicolored yarn.)
@prettydarnadorable6 жыл бұрын
Oh yes multi is hard to work with as a beginner. My tips would be to use light coloured yarn and a hook on the larger size. As a beginner your tension may be on the tight side and the larger hook will help to compensate for this making your stitches easier to work into:) I am so happy it all worked out!

I used to crochet alot. I started when I was 11...I used to make beanies for everyone. Also made scarfs, baby blankets, bags, granny squares, etc wanted to do a temperature afgan, but never got around to it. Well I guess I burned my self out and got distracted by life and other art projects so I got rusty and totally forgot things. I could remember the getting stated with the ring and the count pattern like 2.1.2 and increasing but I couldn't understand why my circle kept looking hexagon style and at the end looking more like a beret. This video really helped refresh my memory. I never used stitch markers before. Course every beanie pattern is different. Maybe my brain was trying to combine two old patterns I had deep in my memory lol. May have to now. Be a Fun trip to hobby lobby. Getting old is no fun. But I always love the simplicity of this style beanie. It's not fancy but it's super functional. I like how the stitches are closer nit to keep your head and ears extra warm. I'm currently trying to get back into the swing of things. I'm trying to make my finances friend who was in a bad wreck and have half his skull plate remove a beanie with a feauxhawk. He's self conscious about his head and always hides it under hats...He use to have bright green Mohawk so I'm trying to Boost his self esteem by giving him someone he use to have before the wreck. Imma even unravel and pet brush out the yarn to give it that hair like effect.

Hi Ashy so sorry not getting back sooner. For this design pretty much one increase round of 6 sts will equal about 1 inch bigger around. @@prettydarnadorable I keep having trouble counting out my stitches as I’m making them - I see people watching TV or carrying on conversations while knitting & crocheting and I guess they’re just blessed with the ability to not lose track…. ….but I’ve figured out my own way of not losing track - instead of counting up say, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, then a double in the 7th, I’ve found it’s easier to count down - 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 2 that way I don’t mis-stitch a double - I get down to ‘1’ and know that the next stitch will have two single crochets instead of one. Counting down ftw.
@prettydarnadorable2 жыл бұрын
@@podboq2 I think that is fantastic whatever works for you and kudos for keeping with it. Tonight I was trying to make some thing with a really fluffy yarn. I couldn’t see what I was doing and so I started using stitch markers and every round when I did an increase, I would put a stitch marker and then that way I knew when I got to the next round that’s where I needed to do another increase. Personally, I cannot crochet and watch TV and carry on conversations. I always need to watch what I’m doing. But I can knit and watch TV because I can feel the stitches on the knitting needle. For some reason it’s easier for me. But I am really glad you found a way for it to work for you. And the way you do it as smart as well because you always know how many stitches you need to do before you increase because you’re repeating that number brilliant my friend brilliant😊

Thank you for this tutorial, your directions were easy to follow. However, the hat I finished barely fit my nine year old grandson. What must I do to enlarge It? Thank you!

same, I followed the tutorial, counted all the stitches and it was tiny.

Hi! Very nice tutorial! Can we make the same one with hdc? If yes how we will join? With the same way or with sl st and chain one? Thank you very much!!!
@prettydarnadorable3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can just use the HDC instead of the sc. Don't worry about joining. Measure when you get close to being done because you won't need to do as many rounds. Good luck!

How do you finish off the top? Mine had a hole and a tail.
@prettydarnadorable Жыл бұрын
You can use the tail to sew the hole closed. Let me know if you need more instruction on how to do that. Hope you enjoyed making it :)

after round ten, what was your diameter? I am using a different size crochet hook so I did more increased rounds, but I am having a hard time determining if the sizing is right to continue with the rest of the hat
@prettydarnadorable4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary I'm sorry I didn't measure - but this is a great tip for future videos I will add that measurement so people using different size hooks can move forward.

No matter how many times I do this I get more of a cone or bowl shape after the first 4 or 5 rounds as opposed to the circle seen in the video. This makes the beanie impossibly small. What am I doing wrong???
@prettydarnadorable2 жыл бұрын
So sorry I'm very late getting to this happy to help can you send me a picture to pretty darn adorable@gmail.com and I'll be happy to help. It could be that you were just crocheting too tightly but let's have a look if you're still interested

I've never been able to make a hat at all, plenty that look like jugs and buckets but never a fully formed hat. I did today, thanks to you. Now maybe this is a fluke and I only managed one, I'm going to try again later to see if it wasn't a fluke. 🤣🤣😍

@prettydarnadorable4 жыл бұрын
This is a great hat to make into a slouch all you need to do is keep adding rounds.
