Great video, easy to understand and right to the point. Your addition of the shaping rows is the solution to those wide flat tops that I'm not fond of, thanks for that too. Giving us the sizes for medium is a real gift because it seems that the large adult sizes don't fit snug enough. I think this basic pattern will allow for a lot of extra, creative ideas to flourish on it; your videos are truly a blessing , thank you :-)

This is the first pattern in which I've seen the shaping rounds. I think I'll like those for a more rounded shape at the top and less of a "pill box" top. I think you are putting the first HDC of each round into the base of the ch-2 every time; is that correct? (That's what I usually do but I can't tell from the video in some of the rounds.) Thanks Subscribed.

I never do shaping rounds and my beanies are not cone shaped. But I find that most beanie patterns are too tall…more of a mini slouch look. So I normally go to 6 inches top to bottom before adding a couple inches of a border.

@MelodyCrochet

Hi! Thats awesome that you are loving crochet. I used a 5.5mm hook and a size four (worsted weight or aran) yarn. This one was I Love This Yarn but that wont be available in shops where you are living. But, there are many other options. Stylecraft Aran would be great for a nice, easy-care acrylic.

Hi again, Melody. I'm having trouble making the magic loop. My fingers just don't seem to want to do what I tell them. Can I start with a 4 chain loop in stead and follow the pattern from there? If I chain up twice, will this count as the first HDC or will I still need to do 9 HDC in addition. Thanks for your help
@MelodyCrochet
@MelodyCrochet 6 жыл бұрын
Hi! You can completely do a chain 4 and slip stitch to start the hat instead of a magic loop. I do not count the chain up as a stitch in hat patterns because I dont like a visible seam. At the end of the row I will slip stitch into the top of the first HDC (not into either of the chains before it) so that chain will just disappear into the inside of the hat. Thanks for asking!

@MelodyCrochet
@MelodyCrochet 6 жыл бұрын
Hi! My best guess is that (at the end of each row) you are slip stitching into one of your chain stitches the top of the first HDC of that row. It can be tricky to tell. That chain will look a lot like a stitch. At the end of each row, you want to slip stitch into the top of the first HDC of that same row, then chain and then your first HDC of the next row is placed right into the same chain you just slip stitched into. It is a very busy little stitch. But, if you do this then work across once in each stitch that follows...you really can't increase your HDC because each one of the previous row will get exactly one HDC placed into it. :D I hope this helps!

You can also ignore that chain 3 and go into the first double crochet to slip stitch. Then double crochet into the stitch that you just slip stitched into. So you'll be ending and beginning in that first double crochet. Oops I said DC or double crochet. It applies to half double crochet as well.

the sollution to this problem is by decreasing the amount of increases, and not making as many rows. i made this pattern with a thin cotton yarn, slightly adjusted it by checking how far along she would be per row and how wide it seemed, and then adjusting how many rows id use to get the same progress going. it took a bit of tinkering, but im sure you can do it with some trial and error! very important not to forget is the shaping rows, they make ALL the difference i found ( thanks to this video i found out what id been doing wrong with all my hats 😂)

HI Melody, am I making a mistake by coming up with 54 stitches when you say the medium doesn't increase anymore? I keep messing up somewhere. Don't know if it's me or the video. Thanks in advance.

Deborah Goins at some point do you have 63 stitches around and you are slowly losing stitches until you end up with 54 stitches by the time you finis making the hat? Or are you never getting up to 63 stitches in the first place?

I did another increase row and got 63, but I thought 54 was for the medium. Just watch till the end and realized I need 63 for a medium, I think lol I suffer so much pain I get my own self confused. Thank you so much for replying so quickly. 😊✌️💕

About row 13. Then if you want to change back I would do so after about 5 rows.

How do you keep it flat for the most part? Cuz I like a mostly flat hat.

Cut out the shaping rows where you crochet around and just add two extra rows to the end of the hat. :)

MelodyCrochet I’m using a 6.0 mm hook and it’s getting really wavy. How do I fix that?

Thank you this was super easy to follow. Iswitedup atiny bit. I started with 10 stitches in my magic circle. For me it was easier to keep track of my stitch count for the increases.
