You are an amazing instructor. You repeat everything enough that i never have to fiddle with rewinding, you show important work in multiple ways, and you speak slowly and clearly when talking about new techniques. I wish you could teach everything.

I have made this border in several blankets, and as you, used a single crochet for the last round. What a game changer the slip stitch will be. Thank you 👏 and thank you to T.L. Young Crafts. 👏

Didn't know this stitch had even a name. In my 65 years of knitting and crocheting since age 4.5 y/o I have often used this as a border. I was never shown it, I just wanted often to make a border when I knitted scarves. Knit fabric in scarves often stretches too much so I experimented with different ways to border the knits and ended up using this already at school girl age. 😊

Hi Robin, just realised why my work never looks like your lovely work. You work mostly with chunky yarn as my DK yarn is more floppy and thus not quite like your work. Anyway, this stitch is really nice to finish a piece of work, especially blankets, thank you 🧶Maria🧶
@mewsli4 ай бұрын
Same for me! Maybe we should try dripping down a hook size maybe even two to get a lighter looking square. Okay it will be smaller ( each square) but then you either make a bigger border or add extra squares. Some of my squares look like a dogs hind leg because I'm using DK and not chunky like yourself.
@HookedbyRobin4 ай бұрын
DK is always a bit more floppy but it gives absolutely GORGEOUS drape for blankets! I made all my test squares using DK and preferred how they felt over the stiffness of the chunky yarn (I used the chunky purely so it could be a quick fun blanket to work up) If I were to make this blanket again and had more time, I'd definitely use DK for it :) The suggestion of a slightly smaller hook is a good shout! Xx

Me three 😊. My yarn go to is usually a 4 weight. I have used 5 & 6 weight but it makes my arthritic fingers ache. Robin’s is real pretty. 😊

@HookedbyRobin the drop in hook size for the DK I'm using as a " test" for the present this dafty has decided to make ? Worked for me , without much change in the size of the actual square. Just remember 19 St's across the top of the square, or if you add an extra row above the hdc , just remember to balance every other square with it. Love Auntie Dafty.

👏🏼👏🏼 I’ve used the camel stitch border before on a baby blanket I made. I learned it from a previous video you made. In fact, that’s when I “discovered” you and I never left you 😄 Subscribed to your channel then and have been your fan ever since. You are an AMAZING teacher Robin 🩷 Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us 😊 LOVE this blanket.

Robin, I love this blanket! What size yarn have you used? Will the camel stitch look just as nicely with any weight yarn? I’m currently finishing another blanket that has softer, thinner yarn and I’d like to use this stitch. I usually use just a half double stitch all around,but this is really nice. I so appreciate all that you have taught me. Thank you, Ruth

my husband did not hear you right he said strangling yarn thats a new one, he needs to clean out his ears. I said she said straddle not strangle. Do you think this would work for a chevron blanket? On my trip to a thrift store all bagged was 19 skiens of each color carron simply soft a nice bone white and cream. I paid 5 bucks for them even had some hooks in I will never use since I love my clovers.
@HookedbyRobin4 ай бұрын
In fairness to him, I do often feel like strangling the yarn! 😂 You could absolutely adapt this for a Chevron border x

There is a single crochet round as the final round (round 7) on the smiley face squares 😃

Hi Robin, I really enjoyed this tutorial. I am interested to know why you didn't use the invisible stitch method to join the red and orange rows? It seems a much better join than the slip stitch + chain method. Also, is there a particular reason that you start new rows in the corner? Would it be easier to start on a side, and thus free up the corner to simply be a corner? I'd be interested in your reply.
@HookedbyRobin3 ай бұрын
You can absolutely change to join with the invisible stitch for the other rows if you prefer! I join each colour at a different corner just to counteract any slight twisting as the border rows progress - again, totally optional Do whatever works best for you! 😃

Can this stitch be worked with all single crochets? I made a hooded cowl using single crochet and the result looks a lot like this.

Technically it wouldn't be the camel stitch but you could adapt it for other stitches 😀

Would you also do a single crochet 2tog if there is a chain stitch connecting the squares instead? (Like how it is in your continous join as you go pattern) Thanks :)
@HookedbyRobin4 ай бұрын
I tend to do an additional granny stitch row for that before doing my actual border - I have a video for dealing with those joins here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqrHdnyPZdeqqM0si=1lhlopSM0_VX6Crh

I am searching like crazy to find all these color yarns. Would be wonderful if you could get the company to have all these colors all packaged up and sold them as a kit. 20 skeins of yarn is a lot! I can’t find what is needed for this project.
@HookedbyRobin4 ай бұрын
You can use any yarn you have really! No specific requirement to use the exact same as me - I know people have been substituting it for yarn in their stash or other brands / weights 😀
