Thank you so much for your video and time! Super helpful. Why does Porsche make this so incredibly complex. As a new Taycan owner, getting the charging right has been incredibly frustrating. The process and interface of Porsche's charging system are very confusing for consumers, even if it makes sense to the developers. Way more complicated than it needs, the User Interface, particularly the toggles in the app, are not intuitive and lead to unnecessary confusion. Feels like a case of developers designing for developers not the end user. Anyway, thanks again!

hi from zurich. we may be near stuttgart, but dealers are clueless here, too. thanks to your excellent video i finally finally know about the profile setting called "minimum charge" to *limit* the charge. the misleading labelling in the car had me stumped, and fiddling with all manner of timer settings; now i can relax. i have probably inadvertently loaded my taycan 4s to 100% a dozen times...no more, thanks to you!

Hi Paul! Thank you for the video! I set this all up with my home profile with a time window between 11pm - 7am and a min charge of 25%. Then I set up the timer for the car to be ready at 7am with a max charge of 85%. Plugged it in and had the blue light blinking. However, when I woke up the car hadn't charged at all. I have the porsche mobile connect charger plus (I believe that is the same as yours but with the lcd screen). Any thoughts on what could have gone wrong?

Hi Lisa! Thank you for the comment. I do appreciate it for sure 🙏 I did actually follow the video. The min charge at 3:00 is for the general charging profile. I was referring to what he gets to later on in the video at around 6:00 mins, where he sets up a min charge for a custom profile.

I have a question. I can only get 4 hours at the cheaper rate from 12:30. If I set the profile and timer as outlined, will the charge stop after the 4 hours, even if the car has not reached the 85%? Or will it still charge until 85% is reached. Thanks. I was thinking if the 4 hours was not long enough multiple nights charging could be used to reach the 85%.

@@paulsteinbruner2129 Thanks Paul on the reply. My way around is to ensure the charge state is only low enough below 85% that it can be reached in the 4 hours with my 7.6kW charger. That way, it will stop before the 4 hour slot AND be at 85%. Obviously if I was at - say 40% - it would start charging way before the 12:30 time. Porsche have not thought this on through. . . .

You're saying the battery wears out when you charge (and stay charged over time) at 100%. However, the VAG cars, including the Taycan has a big buffer at the top - so you never actually fully charge your battery. It is much less damaging to charge a Taycan to 100% every day than a Tesla
@FrozenDung3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can but still the less of the battery you use the better. 20 80% is where Lithium Ion batteries like to be. I am sure most people won't notice much difference between 85 and 100% max charging but if you don't need all that range at once then it just prolongs the battery life.
@SigurdFlaatten3 жыл бұрын
@@FrozenDung Early versions of many VAG cars were only charging to 80% SOC even when the owner sees 100% - I know this has later been adjusted for some models but my point is that 100% in the UI is only maybe 85% real SOC
@harrybrandt65532 жыл бұрын
@@SigurdFlaatten I have explored this with Porsche and it is false that the battery is only charging to 80% if set to 100%. They recommend setting to 85% max.
@SigurdFlaatten2 жыл бұрын
@@harrybrandt6553 There is a 93,4kwh battery, but you can only use 83,4kwh of that battery. This means that even if you charge to "100%" of the useable power, the battery is still only approximately 90% charged. True, a battery should never be held for longer periods of time at very low or very high states of charge, but charging a Taycan to "100%" every day (as long as you use it every day after charging) is absolutely no problem at all. 90% charge is the max of what for example Tesla recommends as "daily use" - again, as long as you actually cycle the power (drive the car) and not let it sit at 90%. With a Tesla, an 85kwh battery charged to 100% will actually have 85kwh power available, unlike Porsche or other VAG cars. VAG is notoriously conservative with their batteries. We saw Audi give some increase to useable kwh with an update to the E-Tron, but still they are nowhere near literally any other EV maker in terms of allowing the whole battery to be used.

Wait so to charge to 85% daily all i have to do is set my minimum to 85 percent? i’ve heard from others that i need to set a timer and put the the target to 85%. @PaulBroere2 жыл бұрын
yup, the buffer is present. With the PB+, 83 of 93 kWh is available. But a LiIon battery wants to be between 20-80% (or even better, as much around 50% as possible). In despite of the buffer, you still need to take care of your battery for maximum longevity :)

Help! I have set up the profile and timing for a 12-5 charge and when I plug it in it does not turn blue, rather it turns red and says charging error. Thuogh the charger does wait until midnight to charge, the battery symbol turns red and says charging error until I check it in the morning and then it show the correct 85% charge level. What can I do to fix this other than take it to the dealer which is 150 miles away?

Thanks for the video. I now have a problem and am looking for help. I set up charging and timer profiles as directed, and all worked fine until two weeks ago. Since then, when using the charging profile (11pm-7am), the 'Waiting' never stops and no charging occurs. The 'blue lights' come on per usual, and all looks fine. So I've had to use Direct Charging - luckily no problems. Interestingly, when the profile is 'waiting', it no longer displays the completion time (as it used to) as it does with Direct. Any suggestions out there? Thanks!

On the new versions of the software the profile might default to the next next day. In this case just use a timer with your desired departure time, your car will wait to start the charge based on the departure time and target SOC.
