All my locos are DC and the cost of converting them is cost inhibitive however, I purchased a Hornby DCC controller and a chip thinking I might convert one. Now Inplan to add a third track dedicated to DCC. My question is do you find any improved running on that old Triang as a result of the conversion?

Bonjour, i have Mountain USRA locomotive (Bowser model kit from the fiveties years) the electric motor is 5 poles but identical with your engine ; frame and motor metalic. The motor is not isolated, except brush (identical also with french HORNBY acho 131 TB or Triang Far-West engine) . My question : is possible adapting your method on ? Thank you for answer.

I have just been converting my model railway to dcc, which explains why your video has only now appeared in my home page, 3 years after your upload. I have fitted decoders to my dcc ready stock (Hornby and EFE) and they all run smoothly. I have also tried converting one of my old locos using the same method as in your video, but it has failed to work. The loco runs on dc with no problem, but any attempt to program the decoder fails unless it is disconnected from the motor. I will check again to see if there is a "Magnadhesion" magnet fitted that may have moved and caused a short. My first thoughts had been that the old motors were so crude that the problem may been because of that, but now that I have seen your almost identical chassis working, I shall try again.

Nice one Heathen brother. What intrigued me was where you picked up the term booked sheet from. We used the term for extra sunday/rd lol 😂😂😂🤘.

Where can I buy decoders?

Depending where you are in the world - try supporting a local model shop 🙂 My personal recommendations would be Great Eastern Models and Rails of Sheffield! 🙂

excellent video, you cleared up a couple questions I had about dcc; do you find the loco is smoother on dcc?

It depends on many factors mate, it can do provided you have good multiple pick ups, correct CV settings and a decent decoder will help you with smoother running!
