@@Domn879dude exactly. Unfortunately I know so many friends who still avoid the harsh reality of life - the journey will be painful but so fulfilling. They want to avoid that pain. But avoiding it and the void at the end is so much worse. I always have known I wanted to be successful of course, but I was nihilistic, messed around and was a dweeb of a man. Maybe I didn’t know EXACTLY what I wanted to do, but my one takeaway from JP and bit of my own advice is that as long as you have a direction that’s better than nothing. I just finished top 10 in my law school, got buff in the last 2 years and overcame about 5 long term ailments from saving from part time jobs to pay for surgeries/medications. Being disciplined - From going to the gym, law school, sticking to a job - I have improved so much as a person, and even if this was never my ‘dream goal’, discovering what that actually might be is so much easier now because I HAD AN AIM, just at something. Aiming at something and going for it will make you level up overall, which opens door after door to aim more precisely in the future. I have more money, a more presentable person, more compassionate person, more social person etc. from doing all these things.

This is GOLD! Saved to a playlist. I feel aimless now, but 18 years ago after a heart-breaking divorce I thought my life was done. I went to a counselor, spent time with a life coach that had me write "perfect life" scenarios. I never believed any of it could happen, but it did. I'm not living in that beautiful cedar home looking over my private pond, but I have a beautiful wife, inside and out, and a comfortable home that has a view of one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Jordan NAILS it! Even if you don’t quite reach the goal, the steps are on a beautiful path, with amazing people. Thank You God!!

@@PetarTomić-o2m I didn't fully achieve it. I am blessed. The most important point is about the journey. Aiming for a perfect life and then attempting to achieve it in a healthy and loving manner is what I believe Jordan is describing. So even when "the perfect" life doesn't happen, the memories and people in my life as a result of that journey is what can be fulfilling. That's my opinion and that is my experience. I'm actually shocked to see how many other people also feel the same way I do about this. I'm aimless in a sense, and it is scary that my intrinsic motivation seems to be dormant. I'm like a TV on standby, nothing is on and there's nothing to see. But I also can't help think that technology has something to do with this, because if you think about it. You're always getting a feed of some sort, with suggestions on where you go next. How often do you ever use the search bar to search for anything anymore? You just happen to stumble across videos. I think this is the same in life, you never directly search or progress towards anything because you're so used to everything being shown to you.

I felt this way but I had major goals and I'm achieving them. I moved to North Dakota experienced some harsh winters then joined the army and went to basic, learned a skill, deployed, came home to become a foster parent to my niece (mother on drugs, dad in prison) then about to get married. My life is so much more meaningful. Now going through job orientation to become a long haul truck driver. I'm more and more inspired and I have some adventures. I know what questions to ask. I know who I am more than before. I don't procrastinate as much because I know what is at stake and the precious life that has been laid in my hands in the middle of an awful mess of emotions. There is a lot of juggling and negotiating. I have had a lot of conversations with my older mother about what's working and what's not and we shift direction together. Most importantly I don't let anyone weaponize any assistance they might offer me. What is offered is at face value or I'm not interested in ulterior motives. #JordanPeterson

I've experiencing personally how much an aim affects your life. It gives you meaning. Something worthwhile to struggle for. It took insane courage, many leaps of faith, determination, some bold moves and belief in myself. But I did it. However, this is just the beginning. I am waiting for the next steps. It will take some more courage and belief in myself, but I know now I can do it now, and it will just make me grow stronger. So thankful for this. I will keep on pushing. It really does make a difference. I needed that direction, however much I told myself I don't need to have it figured out yet, just live in the moment etc. And living in the moment is the way, but having a direction doesn't undermine it, on the contrary, it relaxes your mind so much, which allows to be in the moment and enjoy the journey of moving towards the goal. To be honest, I like the thrill of doing something my heart tells me to do, and then taking the leap of faith, that expands me, leads to growth and synchronicities, hopping in to a new reality. That is the purpose in life, to follow your heart courageously, I think

Damn. I kinda really needed to hear this right now. I’m a little over a year removed from a crippling dope addiction. Comparatively, and on paper, I’m doing great from where I was a year ago. I enjoy some poignant moments here and there but, in some ways, I’m just as depressed as I was then….minus all the stress of being in an active addiction. Ironically, that chase does give you a goal and a purpose tho. I’m realizing I desperately need a goal. I almost feel like the lack of one is probably one of the root causes of the drug problem in the first place. I can’t figure it out. Fuck. This is something I’ve been coming to realize for years now. This helps tho. Thanks Theo and J. Pete. I’m gonna try and get to the bottom of it. I just got myself far enough removed from the absolute slave phase. Now I’m operating under that tyrant…and it crushes me….daily. I get so mad at work for no reason (to myself, to everybody else I am very polite, kind, responsible and hard working). But I start thinking about everything in my life that ever made me mad or embarrassed or uncomfortable….for no reason…other than that I know I’m still basically just a slave. Just a different kind. A typical one…may be what I feared most. It’s almost kind of worse bc as destructive as the junkie life is…it is selfish and for yourself. No interest in going back to it. But maybe there is something to be taken from both experiences that leads to this ultimate goal….I hope so.

Keep setting goals. Don’t give up. The hardest thing I’ve witnessed with friends that are experiencing new sobriety is feeling all the emotions. Drugs numb emotions and this can be overwhelming. Feelings are like waves we can choose the ones to surf. Try not to get stuck in the negative emotions. Stay positive with yourself. Make a daily affirmation that you will succeed and reach your goals. God bless you on your journey. ❤

You need therapy and medication. What you're going through is common after long term opiate addiction, been there myself. But it can be managed and dealt with. But you will accomplish that by working with your physicians and mental health professionals, NOT by listening to a racist edgelord like Peterson. This is what he does. He preys on people going through difficult things and wraps up basic concepts in flowery language and esoteric terms to make it seem as though he saying something profound when in fact he's just STATING THE OBVIOUS. Keep pushing on your journey of sobriety but FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST do not fall down the Jordan Peterson rabbit hole. You're on a good path and listening to this idiot will only drag you backwards.

I feel like the hardest part about becoming better and working on yourself is the realization of how much you already missed out on. When we start working on ourselves we realize how much potential there would've been if only we started earlier. So we go back to the numb life, because we don't even want to know what could be. Does that resonate with anyone? I feel like the frustration you're feeling towards yourself right now is the best sign that you're on the right track 💪 hold the tension and keep moving forward it'll teach you a lot - just don't take it as a sign that you're moving in the wrong direction! The tension, the potential, the overwhelming feelings have always been there in the background, you just decided to numb yourself to them.

Does the school system create a feeling of aimlessness for anyone else? So much emphasis is put on grades nowadays in my country that doing is more important than the learning. Write this, study for this test, get this grade, immediately forget all you learned because the only easily obvious goal in school that you don't have to come up with yourself is a single letter. Meanwhile no one is telling us to or helping us figure out what our ultimate aim should be, like what we want to do after school, what we want to get out of our education, what the point of it all is. It seems like very few people my age (19) have any idea what they'd like to work with, and certainly haven't been looking into it well enough. I wonder if that may be a small factor in why people are so anxious from school nowadays. I know it certainly is the only factor for me right now. It probably has been for many, many years.

I might not be the best advocate for this as I'm 25 (not 40), which I can imagine makes a difference. However, what I can tell you is that everything you said apart from the age difference discribes me 1 year ago. 24, bright career especially for my age and environment, woman next to me, overall healthy friendship and family, but far on a deeper, mostly at the time unconscious level - I was aimless which affected my wellbeing, my relationship, my health, my looks - everything. Long story short, I left the company I worked for, shortly after broke with my girlfriend back then and at the same time some close family members of mine were having major health issues at the time. I started to self-reflect the last 5 years of my life, reliving them day in day out, day by day, trying to recreate the journey - who I was after graduating - who I'm now. What did I achieve, what did I lose from my previous personality and character? Why did I lose certain traits and habits I used to love? Why did I create this bubble of illusions that's centered around my career and growth on corporation level? Where did I do wrong or took for granted the woman next to me? What do I miss about myself, what do I want to start doing again, how do I want to look? What messages do I want to pass on to everyone close to me and the world in the future? How do I achieve that, what's the plan - logically? Visualise myself and everything as much as I can. Do not overthink but get going, then reflect on the experience and adapt on how to overcome the challenges or how to change the current short terms goals of mine. So, in order to feel driven, pressured and eventually fullfillment, you have to get yourself out of your comfort zone and that in my opinion is your work and bubble of day in life.

I've been battling aimlessness pretty badly lately and am really struggling. It's going to be difficult to be sympathetic here but I am not looking for that more speaking to people who may be in the same situation as me. I had a very difficult upbringing and learned a lot of what not to do from it and thankfully those lessons stuck. It has served me well and I have become very successful in my career and most importantly have married an incredible woman whom I have been with now for 20 years. We were unable to have children and now that I'm nearing 50 the possibility is becoming remote and really probably unwise. My life doesn't have the gaps that usually make people feel aimless yet I very much feel it. Maybe I need to find something to chase I am not sure. It is not a lack of gratitude of that I am sure. I am humbled with gratitude daily for where my life is now. I just wish I could somehow shake this feeling that I have somehow squandered some potential. I think part of it is I just never feel like I have done enough and now I just feel like I am stuck trying to find what I need to do next to finally be worthy of this ridiculous ideal I have in my head. It's incredibly hard to articulate the feeling.

I think this is a fatal flaw in being brought up in good times. Not sure about you but I had to work REAL hard in my 20's and 30's to dump the "your special!" garbage that started really ramping up in the 80's and 90's. I am sure there is a massive collective of folks that feel they have utterly pissed away the potential they were built up to believe they had and would unleash on the world. They started all the "advanced classes", our parents pushed sports and lived vicariously through us, our grades became weaponized and our peers made competitors. We turned it into squid games and every one of us was told we'd win. That hurts when you hit 30, 40, 50 and you ended up just a regular ass human like the 99.9999999% of us. You are not aimless or lost. You're human. Right there with you, mentally. Maybe just looking at it a hop or two removed.

Good advice but I would start with 1 or 2 areas of your life instead of all. Trying to improve all your areas at the same time is too much. Pick the 1 or 2 most important areas first and move to other areas from there.

@@キラキラくりくり頭 Calling anything besides chemicals toxic is dumb. Why not dig deeper into the valid criticisms. His consortium of elites advocate top down control. This group wants resource redistribution, world bank loans, he says there are too many resources to make adoption viable as a solution, his anti power narrative which is shadow projection to counter his large ego, subsidiarity, discouraging collective identities unless it’s one of his prescriptions that keep us atomized. Not to mention he was a suicidal drug addict telling others how to live.
